Sometimes, Jungkook would sit quietly, eyes closed, and observe the bond. He would let all his awareness focus on it—its organic shifts, like the movement of water on an ancient riverbed, shaping the land even as the land guided its flow.
When he was a child, he had tried to imagine what such a link to another person would be like. To feel them—to keep a part of them like a blooming flower inside you and know someone treasured you the same way.
He'd realised what foolish notions those were when he bonded to Alpha Hwang. What a pathetic romantic he had been to think anybody would ever want to take care of Jungkook like that. Would even want to hold him close so that his worries and joys and fears and hopes were shared with someone else.
Now, though...now, he was starting to wonder if those childhood dreams were so farfetched after all.
Alpha Taehyung was just so alive. He reminded Jungkook of the sea, the way it became lively and joyful, stretched out to the horizon in a chaos of rhythms—its waves and currents and undertows.
Jungkook could stand where the salty water left its mark on the shore and feel the waves rush across his ankles, a shiver of sensation going through his body. Could look at the expanse of blue and wonder if it was true—what his senses were telling him—that he could dive into the deep and be held afloat and out of danger to look freely at the sky.
But it was frightening, looking into those depths sometimes. Frightening to watch the sea turn tumultuous and not know if it would rise and drag Jungkook under into the cold and the dark.
Jungkook was already on his way home when he felt a wave of frustration like the echo of a ringing bell come from the bond.
The person that had been walking behind him grumbled at Jungkook's sudden stop in the middle of the sidewalk, passing him with a glare, but Jungkook couldn't even open his mouth to apologise.
Alpha Kim was angry. It wasn't cold and sharp like Alpha Hwang used to be, but Jungkook could recognise the sensation.
Jungkook stumbled to the side, pressing himself into an alcove and just tried to breathe.
Whatever it was, maybe Jungkook could fix it. He desperately tried to think about what he could have done to arise Alpha Kim's anger when he wasn't even there.
Maybe Alpha Kim had become tired of going home without Jungkook there to greet him? Or perhaps Jungkook had spoken to someone today and made a fool of himself. Maybe Lulu was unhappy with his work and had called Alpha Kim about it, and he was—
(A/N-My overthinking queen, only he can give me a competition in it)
Jungkook realised that all he was doing was wasting more time, letting Alpha Kim become even more irritated with him, and pushed himself away from the wall to hurry home. He closed off his own end of the bond subtly, trying not to give too much away—it would be unsightly to burden him with his own emotions.
