The gem glowed for a moment, rising up into the air. A flash of white light emitted from it and the green human esque creature I'd attacked earlier sat in its place.
"What in the name of-" I slammed on the brakes, the things face slamming against the dashboard. With a poof, it was gone again, the gem in it's place once more.
I pulled my foot off the pedal and attempted to remain driving regularly. I began going over my options. I couldn't drive home and pretend this didn't happen. That'd cause tons of problems. Getting back to the hotel and sorting things out from there? Nu-uh, not happening. My only option was that god awful house.
Lucky for me it was hardly more than an hours drive from the field I'd been in. Unluckily for me, it was probably dust covered and grimy.
I was going to hide out (at least for a little while) at my grandparents house. Or, what used to be my grandparents house. Legally speaking it belonged to me, but I was 100% sure it was haunted, and nearly refused to even enter the house upon gaining the legal rights to it after my grandparents had passed away.
My grandparents and I had never really gotten along. They were much too conservative for my tastes, so you can imagine my surprise at the reading of the will when I heard, "To our dearest (Y/N), we leave our estate and possessions." Now though it seemed to be my only option.
The sun had begun to rise as I pulled up to the old, white, Victorian, house. I let out a sigh of relief. The house was quite closed off, distant from towns, and isolated by the forest. Admittedly, it was beautiful, albeit slightly terrifying.
Living in an old, Victorian mansion, in the woods? Haha, no thank you. Dying by demonic possession ins't exactly my cup of tea.
I hauled myself and the disembodied limbs inside.
As I expected, it smelled musty and awful inside. Like dust and wet wood and death. Despite the awful aroma, I pushed on. I tossed my unexpected, and unwelcome visitor onto the chaise lounge and sat down on the floor in front of it.
I rubbed my hands against my forehead. In all of the panic, I hadn't realized how hungry I was. I knew that I couldn't just leave and get food though. I had gotten myself into quite the situation. Perhaps I could just leave. Leave this possibly dangerous and vile creature in what was legally my estate. Nope, bad idea.
My stomach was aching. I hadn't eaten since my noon pizza break. I groaned softly and closed my eyes. I hadn't intended on falling asleep, but I did. I guess I'm just lucky the thing I'd brought back with me didn't awaken as well.
At least, not while I was asleep that is.
I had hardly been awake for enough time to be considered fully conscious when I once again saw the green gem rise up, glowing brightly.
I squeaked, now nearly fully awake, and scrambled behind a nearby chair. I held my hand over my mouth, trying not to make anymore noise, repeating a mantra in my head, Don't sneeze, don't sneeze, don't sneeze.
