Chapter 5

I saw Josh's figure come into focus, I got up and fast walked towards him but the closer I got I saw that his hands were raised in a surrendering way. Crap, Steven must have seen him; but hold on wouldn't Josh be dead than if Steven saw him. I stepped to the side and see a group of figures-about seven of them-, they looked to be in a formation of a 'V' and the point of the 'V' who in this case could consist of the leader had something to Josh's back.

"Josh-", he nodded his head signifying to me that he was okay. The figures came into focus and the group consisted of four females and three men. Three men and three women on the opposite side of each other and the leader was an old women who looked to be no higher than five foot three. Though when the women saw me she stopped in her tracks and looked at me, she didn't look angry or frightened, she just stared at me. I knew I needed to get to Josh so I walked slowly towards him not taking my eyes off the old women. I could see at the corner of my eye that he was shaking his head for me to stop but I kept walking. All of a sudden the women put what ever she had on Josh's back into him he dropped his hands and got on his knees from the sudden pain. With that I ran towards him before the old women could push whatever it was into his back.

"Don't" I was in front of the group and my back towards Josh, with my knife now ready in my hand.

"Come near him anymore and I won't hesitate to cut someone", they didn't move but now all stared at me. Damn all their eyes on me remind me of Children Of The Corn for some reason, that wasn't a good thought cause a shiver shot through me and I began to get creeped out. They broke the eye contact and started talking in an accent that I was not familiar with, they talked for a while but the whole time the old women just listened and never said anything. I turned around and saw that Josh had a stick hanging out of his back. I put away the knife and knelt beside him and caressed his cheek.

"Y/n I need you to pull it out, please" I knew I couldn't argue but I was still hesitant.

"Please. I'll be fine I just need you to do it" I nodded my head and got up, I was at his back and lightly touched it. I heard him groan in pain and I had to pull it out fast or I was never going to have the guts to do it. I gripped the stick and yanked with all my might, Josh screamed but put his hand on his mouth so that he could yell in it instead of luring the Wendigo's to our location. The stick came out smoothly and I kept it by my side so that I would have a weapon to give Olivia.

"I'm sorry! Are you okay?" he just gives me a thumbs up and slowly stands up, I grip his arm so that he had some support if he needed it.

"Thank you" he pecks my lips I smile and that's when I noticed that it was quiet. I whip my head around so fast I'm near whiplash; nothing, there was no one there. That can't be possible there was seven people right there. I'm sure we would have seen them move or hear them at least.

"Y/n. Did you see that?" I look over to Olivia and she looks like she was spooked.

"See what?"

"They just disappeared. I looked behind cause I thought I heard something and I turned back and they were gone. They were gone in a blink of an eye, that can't be possible can it?"

I didn't say anything, how could I. I didn't know what happened either,

"I think we should get the boys they definitely shouldn't be alone after what just happened" they both agreed and with that we headed for the boys; I gave Olivia the stick just in case. While we headed back I kept thinking about the group we had just encountered and they didn't look exactly like what we have today. They all wore traditional Indigenous clothing, sun-kissed skin, and had red markings or what looked like paint along their bodies. The older women had bones on a necklaces that she had intertwined on her right hand. I was too focused on the group I didn't even hear or see that we had arrived to where the boys hid.

"Y/n.. Are you alright?" Josh says looking at me with worry.

"Yeah I'm just thinking about the people we encountered"

"I know that was an interesting turn"

"How exactly did you bump into them"

"I didn't.. I was coming back to you cause the noise was just a squirrel playing around and when I turned back the old women was right in front of me and then I noticed that I was surrounded"

I looked down and put my fingers to my chin. Weird, why didn't they injure him when he was alone? Where trying to strike fear in us? Why were they here? And how the hell did they get away so fast? Josh pulled me towards him, wrapping his arms around me and kissing the top of me head.

"Hey you two we don't have time to hit the 'bone-zone' right now". I turned around in Josh's arms and saw Mike, he had given Olivia Derek and let them have their alone time. I give him a smile and he looks at Josh I can see in his eyes he looks uneasy but it soon fades away and gives him a sideways smile.

"Hey man, how you doing?" Josh smiles

"Oh you know eating furry creatures and people. You know the usual" I hit his chest lightly and give him a glare. Mike tenses up and looks like he is about to faint now.

"Mike he's only joking. We'll he did eat that guy but that was it"

"I know, ha, ha" Josh and I laugh at that. At least Josh is lightening up a little.

"So since you found Josh did you find group one?" I shock my head

"No. But we did find that there are other people down here"

"What do you mean?" and with that I broke into our little adventure.
