10k's pov *
It had been a few mintues since I abandon ship as you could say and swam to shore for my safety from the zombie jam.
I have to say, being on the other side of the river with no clue of where your friends are, and if they were okay, is kinda nerve wracking. Especially when they're the only people you have left in this messed up hell hole called life.
After a moment of catching my breath, I stood to my feet and rung out the corner of my shirt. I watched as the water dripped from my hands and to the dry ground, before I started searching the other side of the river. I know I wouldn't be able to swim across, it would just carry me further back from where I needed to head.
"Find a different way across. Find Doc and the others. Continue on with the mission." I said, speaking my plan aloud.
I headed through the bushes and trees to find myself lost in a field. It didn't take me long to find one of the men that was back on the boat with me, Sketchy was he's name or what he called himself and it seemed he was missing his friend. I think his name was Skeezy, at least it makes feel better about my nickname.
"Aw, kid!" The man yelled over to me in joy as he waved me over. I hesitated, did I really want to get myself into this? I slowly walked over as he wrapped an arm around my shoulder. "It's good to see you made it, you're the good shot right?" He asked. I nodded in response before taking his arm off from around me. "Have you seen my friends?" "No, I haven't seen them. Who know for all the could be dea-" I glared slightly before he could finish his sentence. "But that's a very low possibility." He reassured.
I had nothing left to say to him and from that moment, I started heading off to find the others but was soon stopped. "Woah there kid," Sketchy raced up beside me, grabbing me by the forearm. "You know we should probably stick together..." "I'm fine by myself," was all I had to say before I continued on.
The man seemed to have not gotten it through his head that I didn't need him, but he wouldn't shut up about it which lead to me finally giving up and agreeing to stay with him.
We walked for about less then an hour, he told me stories about his past loots before we were stopped by the sound of groaning near by. The man nearly froze in his tracked at the sight of his friend, "Skeezy? Oh my god, what happened, buddy? You're in half," Sketchy said in stock as he turned to me. "We can't leave him," he paused. "We have to mercy him, he deserves that at least." Sketchy said to me, I pulled the gun from my holster and went to hand it to him but he shook his head. "You should do it, but-" he paused, searching around the ground before picking up a large rock and placed it in my empty hand. "No need to waste a bullet."
I slipped my gun away, before walking over to the half corpse. I raised the rock back to hopefully gain enough force to kill the man in two hits, but just before I let my arm swing the corpse began to shout. "Hey- hey! I'm alive goddammit! I'm alive!" He yelled.
I dropped the rock beside me and stepped back as Sketchy rushed to my side and looked down at his friend. "I'm stuck in a hole..." the skinny con-artist said as he reached out for our help. After a few tugs we got him out and head on our way, I have to say it was interesting being with the two. We ran into a pack of hillbilles, who obviously took the fall for the whole "The Murphy" scam played by Skeezy. I watched the man have to bite nearly everyone of them before the gears in their brains started moving and the realized he was a fake. We all ran as long as our feet could carry us before we came upon a dentist truck. It was odd to see someone such as that out here, but I didn't question it as I got in.
