Love in the Maze (Newt x Reader)

Y/N started to become nervous as she was led to a single chair on the other side of the Homestead. Her palms were becoming sweaty just waiting for all the Keepers to sit down and listen to Alby. Newt saw this and decided to comfort her. Unfortunately, he was on the other side of the room with Minho, so he just made eye contact with her and gave his best encouraging and warm smile that he could muster. Y/N smiled back, feeling herself relax when Newt smiled at her.
"Alright, slintheads!", Alby roared through the talkative crowd, "Let's begin". Everyone settled down as Alby began.

"Now, the reason why we're are all here right now is that we need to discuss Y/N's behaviour from a few nights ago", Alby spoke loud and clear. A few guys looked at each other, as if asking why they needed to do this, she did nothing wrong (Including Newt). But there were some boys who nodded their heads in agreement (Including Gally). As the meeting went on, Y/N sat in the corner just listening to them talk about her as if she wasn't even there!
"Um...guys? I'm right here you know?", she spoke up, trying to make them realise she was uncomfortable.
"No talking, slinthead!", Gally yelled angrily. Y/N went back to being reserved and quiet as they still chatted.
"Don't talk to her like that!", Newt argued at Gally, feeling really protective now of how people treated her.
"Oh yeah? Why Newt? You know the accused aren't allowed to talk during Gatherings!", Gally retorted, fuming from head to toe.
"That doesn't mean you have to yell at her and make her upset".
"Well she broke our MAIN rule, Newt! She deserves nothing more than cold remarks! And why are you even here? You're not even a Keeper!".
"Incase you have forgotten, Gally. I am still Second-in-Command, not just a Runner!".
"Enough!", Alby had quite enough of the two boys' bickering. They had never been like this... Until Y/N showed up. 'Maybe that's why they are always arguing now', the leader thought, finally realising the whole story. "Sit down the both of you so we can discuss this like proper politics".
"We are teenage boys, Alby", Winston, Keeper of the Slicers, spoke up, "What would we know of politics". The rest of the Keepers burst out laughing as Newt and Gally sat down.
"Now, since Y/N did break our main rule, as Gally pointed out... We need to decide her punishment", after that, most boys erupted into retorts and shouts about it all.

Y/N was now terrified. 'Punishment...? What does that mean!'. She sat on her little stool, almost shaking at how much yelling was going on. The Greenie also heard, amongst the rabble, the sort of punishments she should take. One was to stay in the bathrooms for a week without it being cleaned. How could anyone have that twisted of a mind that they thought of that punishment?! Newt denied every punishment suggestion that came Alby's and his way. How could they come up with such punishments? She saved Ben's, AND Newt's, life. She only helped them, only did what was right.
"Why should Y/N need a punishment at all?", Newt questioned in an angry tone, "She saved mine and Ben's lives, she helped me escape the Grievers, she doesn't deserve a punishment for doing the right thing".
Gally, of course, stood up and objected. "Yes she does Newt! She broke our main rule, and you are defending her? She could've gotten you killed, you don't you see that? Or have you gone soft on her?".

After that sentence, Y/N looked up at Newt to see his reaction. The whole room had gone quiet, making Gally smirk like the smug shuckhead he was. Newt stood still. He still had an angry expression on his flawless face, but everyone could see his cheeks glow a slight pink. From rage or embarrassment, no one could tell. But one thing was for certain, Y/N couldn't take this any more.
"Guys!", she stood from her stool, raising her arms in the air to silence the quiet murmurs going around.
"What did I sa-"
"Silence, Gally! I don't care about what is allowed and what's not. Now sit down and listen!". Gally looked flabbergasted, but sat down all the same, rage practically radiating from his body.
"Now, I know what I did was wrong, and I'm sorry for causing you guys to turn on each other. You shouldn't have to. So... punish me however you want, I will take it. Whatever it may be. But I will not be punished for something, I believe, that was the right thing.", those were her last words as she strode to the door, pulled it open, then slammed it shut when she was outside.
