Part 14

We drove to the mall, in silence. It’s was comfortable though, we didn’t need to talk to understand each other. It was just our thing, only we could do it. As we reached the mall, I saw a lot of couples walking around. Was it couple’s night or something? Why had Nathan brought me here? He put his arm around me, shocking me. He looked at me, asking if it was ok, I only nodded, saying it was fine.

The only thing going through my head was, are we a couple? Do we look like a couple?

“Let’s go. Where do you want to go?” He asks, breaking me out of my thoughts.

I shrugged, not knowing where to go. I didn’t go shopping a lot. I had to save money for bills and things like that. He frowned, and started walking with me. We went into the first shop we saw.

I saw some clothes I thought I would like, but didn’t buy them, thinking they were too expensive. Nathan, seeming to know what I was thinking, or reading my mind, spoke up.

“Alice, it’s ok. Get whatever you want. I'm really rich, I could spend money like there was no tomorrow and no one would care.”

I sighed, and decided to take one of the cute tops I saw before. Nathan smile, and kissed my cheek, shocking me. He never showed such a display of affection, in public. Again, the question popped up in my head, are we a couple? I didn’t even know what we were. Are we Friends, a couple, or just friends with benefits? I was so confused, but decided to push it away, just for now.

We walked around the mall, occasionally buying stuff here and there. We had started at JC penny’s and ended up going all through the mall. It was amazing!!! Nathan and I just talked, about everything and anything, just enjoying one another’s company. For a while, I didn’t worry about anything, letting my troubles be forgotten, just for a little bit. We fooled around, played, laughed, and just relaxed. It was the best time I’ve ever had!! I just let loose, for a little bit and I never wanted to stop. After we had gotten enough clothes for me to last a long time, we left, laughing.

“That was really fun. Thanks Nathan.” I said, as we got back into his car.

“No problem, Alice.” He says, happy.

He leans over the seat to mine. We get closer, and closer, and closer, until we’re brushing our lips together, when suddenly…his phone rings.

We both jump apart, as he reaches for the phone in his pocket. I'm blushing like crazy, whereas Nathan looks kind of disappointed or upset.

“Hello?” he asks.

Pause, someone’s talking over the phone.

I glance at the clock, it’s midnight!!!!! How is the mall even open at this time?! And on a school night none the less!!!

“Yeah, we’re coming home.” He answers.

I realized I missed the whole conversation.

“Bye.” He hangs up.

“That was mom, she’s wondering where we are. She didn’t even know that I went out this late.” He said, rolling his eyes.

“Hey, at least they’re trying. My parents didn’t even care.” I answered a little bitter.

He looked at me, apologetically, and I just flashed him a bright smile, to tell him that I was ok. We reached his home in no time. His mom and dad were waiting outside, which shocked all of us.

“Alec and Alex want you. They said they wouldn’t go to sleep without you. They were crying. Since we didn’t know how to handle them, you two know how to that, since they’re your kids, we let them stay up.” Carla explained, as we neared the door.

“Why didn’t you just call us, it’s too late for them to be awake!!” Nathan yelled, angry.

“We didn’t think you would take so long! We wanted you two to have some fun.” Jacob answered.

“It’s ok, Nathan. Thank you, Carla and Jacob.” I replied both calming Nathan down, and thanking his parents.

“See Nathan, that’s how you’re suppose to talk to us.” Jacob told Nathan.

I smiled, as Nathan rolled his eyes.

“I want Alice as our daughter. Nathan, marry her soon.” Carla said.

This caused me to blush, while Nathan smiled, happy at my reaction.

“I hope they weren’t too much trouble?” I asked.

“No, other than not going to sleep on time, they were angels.” Carla replied.

I nodded, walking into the living room, where the maids and butlers were playing with Alec and Alex, trying to distract them.

“Alec! Alex!” Nathan and I scolded.

They looked up, with the look of children caught with their hands in a cookie jar. They stopped playing and rushed over to us, as we picked them up.

“That’s not nice!!! Nathan’s let us stay at his house, and you guys are not listening to his rules!!!” I scolded.

“Sorry.” They repented together.

“It’s your house too, but you guys need to follow the same rules as in Alice’s house.” Nathan interjected, acting like a dad.

“Sorry.” They said yet again.

“It’s ok, now go to bed. We’ll be there in a couple of minutes to tuck you two in.” I said, realizing they were already in their pajamas.

They rushed upstairs, so as not to upset us further. I went over to the maids and butlers.

“I’m sorry. I hope they weren’t any trouble.” I told them.

“Not at all, mist—Alice. They weren’t any trouble at all. In fact, they were good little angels.” Patricia, as it says on her name tag, says.

“Yes, indeed. You’ve raised them very well.” Jack, a butler, said.

“Thanks. It’s hard but they’ve turned out way better than I could have hoped for. Thanks again.” I said.

They went back to working. Nathan and I went upstairs.

“Hey, I bet they all have families right, so what are they doing here at this time of night?” I asked.

“No, they’re all homeless, or orphans, so they all live here. Mom and dad take in people with no family and nowhere to go. They give them hope and a job. If they wanted, to all of them could have moved out and went to find a better job. We pay them all very high wage. They’re just so devoted, I guess.” Nathan informed me.

Wow!! I never knew this side of Nathan’s family. His parents found all these people, which had been kicked, over and over again, and built them up, so they could stand on their own two feet. It made me really happy, and explained why they took me in so easily.

            We went upstairs and Alex and Alec were already in bed, lying down, on the same bed. They liked to sleep in the same bed. It made them happy to know that they had someone right next to them. We tucked them in, I kissed the kids forehead, and Nathan stroked their hair. They slowly fell asleep, as Nathan and I watched them. It was about 12:30am now, and we had school.

            We went to his room. The maids had already put my new wardrobe in my room. Nathan and I split to change. I had gotten new pajamas, not real pajamas, just another over-sized t-shirt and shorts just long enough to be seen over my shirt. I heard a knock on my door, as I finished changing.

I opened the door, knowing who it would be. As I expected, Nathan was standing there, already in his pajamas, a large t-shirt and shorts, like me. We didn’t say anything, just went to Nathan’s room, and went to bed. Nathan’s warm arms wrapped around me and it was like he was he was a sleep inducing pill. I instantly fell asleep.

Ok, I know it's a pretty boring chapter, more of a filler chapter, but if I get some votes and comments, then I'll upload another one today, hopefully a more exciting chapter.
