PIPER'S POV

"Relax, Piper." said my close friend, Riley.

"I totally am." I smirked.

Riley chuckled, "We'll see about that."

Before I could ask what he meant, his younger brother, Toby, suddenly took a seat next to us. Well...Toby was actually my crush, but...of course he didn't know that. "Hey Piper! Hey Riley!" he smiled. "What's up?"

I shrugged and looked at Riley. He answered, "Connor was talking about that New Year's party. He was wondering if we all wanted to go."

"I'm up for that!" Toby immediately replied.

I wasn't sure whether or not I could go, so I remained silent.

"Piper?"

"Yeah?" I said as I looked up at Toby.

He laughed, "Wanna come? It's gonna be fun."

I looked at Riley who was smirking as he nodded. "Why not?" I managed to say, probably with too much excitement. I could have sworn it sounded more like a squeak though...

A day later, I stayed in my room and listened to music as I lay on my bed. I was about to drift off to wonderland when I heard intense knocking on my bedroom window. I removed my earphones and was surprised to see Toby sitting on the ledge of my window. I quickly stood up to open the window and let him in. "Heya." Toby simply greeted.

"Ummm..." I started, "Why through the window?"

Toby shrugged, "Felt like it would have been cooler."

"I see." I grin.

Toby sat on the floor and smiled, "Tomorrow's the New Year's party at our place. Excited?"

"More than you know." I chuckled.

"Same here." he smiled.

Minutes, or even hours, passed by. Toby and I just kept talking and joking around. I was amazed that I didn't act awkward. That's good. I just had a good time with the guy I liked. Until...

"Aha!" my sister suddenly exclaims as she bursts through the door. "Sneaking in a guy at night!"

"What?" I say in disbelief. Toby looks just as unimpressed.

"I'm telling mom!" she declares. "You're in SO much trouble."

I hear her run downstairs. I let out a sigh. "Whoops." Toby sheepishly smiles.

"Not your fault." I assure him.

I urge him to leave before he gets in trouble, and once he does, I go downstairs.

I'm shocked to find out that my mom takes my sister's side. She decides to ground me from using my phone and computer! Are you kidding? I couldn't even defend myself...

A day has passed since that unfortunate incident happened. Nonetheless, it didn't stop me from talking to Toby. We resorted to the good old-fashioned way- letters. It actually felt satisfying to write letters and notes to each other. It was very romantic, in fact.

However, that wasn't enough. Today's the New Year's party...and I couldn't go. But I'm not going to sit here an cry. I've got some convincing to do.

I went down to where my mom was cooking. "Mom." I said.

Mom looked at me, "Yes?"

"You have to let me go to the New Year's party. Please!" I pleaded.

"You didn't ask permission, and you snuck a boy into the house." Mom said firmly.

"Believe me, Mom," I started, "I was going to tell you right after."

Mom raised an eyebrow, and I continued, "And about Toby...he just felt like going through the window was cool. He's playful like that..."

Mom asked, "Really?"

I could tell she was trying to trust him. "You can trust him. He's a good guy." I said as convincing as I could.

She lets out a sigh and shrugs. "Fine...you can go."

I wa surprised at her answer. Still, she allowed me as long as I followed her, let's say, conditions.

**at the party**

I entered the McDonough household when Connor opened the door for me. He told me that Tony was somewhere near the kitchen. Turns out he was right. Toby was preparing some food. I smirked to myself and crept closer to him, catching Toby by surprise by covering his eyes. "H-hey! I can't see! Who's this?"

"Hey, Ninja Boy." I chuckled.

"Piper?" Toby laughed.

I removed my hands from his eyes and waved.

"I thought you wouldn't make it!" he exclaimed.

"Well...here I am." I smiled.

Just then, Toby suddenly lifted me up in a hug. It happened so fast! He set me down, laughing. "Glad you could make it."

I was probably blushing but I managed to say, "Same here...but! My mom had to set some conditions."

Toby chuckled, "Ok, but we can still have fun."

He offered me his hand and we walked to the living room.

Let's get this party started.
