Human
You couldn't hold yourself from grinning as you and Sans walked a short while till you reached the deformed lamp. Sans needn't to say anything as you walked behind it so Papyrus won't see you. In the latest timelines you hated so much to hide – generally you hated the first part of your journey but right now you were happy yet a little bit worried. Somewhere out there was your sister. It broke your heart in all possible ways since you swore to be her protector. Just like Sans took care of his younger brother you would take care of your younger sisters. That's a life of an older sibling, but you liked it anyway. It was kinda special and stuff...
To see Papyrus just for a bit you looked past the lamp, just enough to see him and not been noticed. You didn't want to mess with this timeline. The tall skeleton was like always but it still made you smile wide. Seeing Sans and Papyrus together filled you with lots of HOPE. Maybe this would be your new true timeline. Maybe there won't be any 101th reset.
Not only did Sans feel that this timeline was different, you could it feel too. A soft pushing on your SOUL, a lovely melody inside of your HEART. With a little effort you could end the resets. But... did that mean you have to kill Chara along with Frisk without resetting the world?
You felt how your lips got dry and your breath stopped. Once again you hid behind the lamp. Your hands were shaking, so you had to take good care to not touch the lamp since it would shake with you.
Killing Frisk for your own happiness? What would you say to your parents when you get home? Hey, mum, dad, I'm sorry but I had to kill Frisky so the world would go on...? How pathetic.
There has to be a way to master the time. Maybe Chara isn't that evil in this timeline? Maybe Frisk has more control over her body?
Maybe, maybe, maybe... A lot to many maybes...
First of all you had to take care of your friends, so they wouldn't get killed. Then you could think of a way to safe Frisk and eliminating Chara.
"Hey, ya can stop hiding, ya know?"
Suddenly Sans stood right beside you. A shocked cry escaped your lips as you jumped back in panic. Papyrus was nowhere to be seen. There was only a goofy grinning Sans to your side. Oh how you missed the smile you gave you. If you hadn't seen him broken so many times you would say this skeleton never cries.
"Why ya so jumpy? Did I hurt you someti-" swallowing hard he stopped midsentence. "I-I mean..."
Seeing how hurt Sans looked like, you put your hand on his shoulder. "It's fine Sans. We both made a lot of mistakes, didn't we?" You couldn't erase all those painful memories, but you could get over it. It's for the best if you don't speak about them.
Sans laid his skeletal hand on yours, which was still resting on his right shoulder. A sad smile appeared on his face and sorrow was written in his eye-sockets. Even though he was the real Sans – your Sans, he was a bit different. Both of you were. Since the first timeline a bunch of things happened. "Let's make this the last timeline."
You nodded, then let go of his shoulder knowing you had to go on with the story. The more friends you make before Frisk comes, the more lives can be saved. Pretty everyone would trust Sans if he told them what's going on, but this wouldn't change anything about you and Frisk. Also you wanted to apologize to everyone for murdering them, even if they didn't remember it.
And the first person you would apologize to will be Sans. Not right now, but in the nearest future. Still, one question didn't leave your mind and made you uneasy. So as the two of you were walking you had to spill it out. "Sans, can I ask a question?"
He nodded as a response.
"How is it you don't hate me? I mean... This whole shit started with me and I hurt you in to many ways to count. How is it you're not mad at me?"
[DIRTY BROTHERKILLER]
Those words will never fade. You can still hear them clearly everytime.
Sure, Sans had killed you too, but only because you murdered every monster that came across. There is nothing for what you could hate him. You on the other hand were a bloodthirsty demon.
To your surprise the skeleton let out a chuckle. "That's why I can't hate you. Your to lovely. The first time I saw you, I knew something bigger is going on. Two humans on one day. This did never happen before. And then you and Frisk started to play along with Papyrus, and he was so happy. Sorry if you heard that before, but I'm really rootin' for ya and Frisk. Your like family to me."
His words made you blush, but what made you blush more was a soft blue dust on his own cheekbones and the way he looked away with his hands in the pockets of his jacked. A warm feeling overflowed your heard making you smile softly. After everything you two went through finely it felt right.
"Thanks, Sans. You're and always will be the best skele-friend I have."
His cheeks turned a shade darker but he laughed at you with joy in his eyes.
Normally Sans would meet up with Papyrus and you would come later, but in this timeline Sans didn't want to leave you alone, afraid of Frisk begin somewhere near. So you decided to walk with him to his brother. Once again something happened that was new to you. Maybe this was the key. Maybe things had to go some other way so you could archive another ending.
All those 'maybes' went on your nerves. For one time you wanted to be sure!
Way to fast you were standing before Papyrus.
"OI, SANS, WHO DO YOU HAVE THERE?"
At this point Sans would joke and point at the rock behind you, but this time he pulled you closer to him and poked your cheek. "You mean her?"
"IS THAT A HUMAN?" he asked in disbelieve.
"Yep."
"...REALLY?"
"Yep."
Papyrus watched the tow of you suspiciously. Then he grinned and his chest went up, as he stood there proudly. "I AM THE GREAT PAPYRUS! HUMAN, I'LL SHOW YOU WHO IS A REALLY COOL SKELETON."
You nodded giggling. "I'm sure you do. Sans is to sassy, anyway."
"Ey, what was that?" pounded Sans with an irritated look on his face. It made you and Papyrus laugh.
"I LIKE YOU HUMAN. LET THE GREAT PAPYRUS SHOW YOU REAL FUN." with this he runs away, properly to prepare the puzzles for you.
Sans let out a sigh. "So I am sassy?"
His comment made you laugh again. Was he joules? No way! Shaking your head in disbelieve you gave him a soft peak on his cheekbone, which turned blue the same time your lips touched the bone. "It was only a pun Sansy. Cheer up. I have a lot of puzzles before me, so let's go on." You were the first one to run a few inches before you stopped and turned on your heels to see Sans. "I already told you, your my best skele-friend. We are going to have some great time in this timeline. We really deserve it."
"Yeah, you have a good point."
And so he came to you and the adventure went on. Even if you acted carelessly you had still many sorrows in the back of your head. One of them was the upcoming fight against Papyrus. What if Chara is inside you but you just can't sense them yet? What if Frisk is just waiting for a good momente to strike?
So many questions, so little answers.
