CHAPTER 16

Xandiar and Landon were walking togehter, deep in conversation. Xandiar was wildly interested in the human world, but never dared to ask me anything about it; he thought too highly of me. Landon looked at ease, but still a little nervous. I could tell that Xandiar liked Landon, because he wasn't like every other human he met. Landon wasn't asking a million questions about everything he saw, and he wasn't being obnoxious. He was calm, curious, and totally understanding. As we walked down the corridor, Landon felt for my hand and locked his fingers with mine.

I had thought that my two worlds crashing together would be awful, but the transition seemed smooth. For now..

"Princess, could I have a word with you?" an elder asked, and I smiled. I gave Xandiar a look, and he knew what it meant. He wouldn't let Landon out of his sight.

The elders name was Elsie, and she did not  understand the human world, humans themselves, or why I'd associate myself with such a person.

"Princess, why have you brought a human here, to the ball?" her voice was hard, stern, but her eyes were curious. She looked over my shoulder, towards Landon and Xandiar.

"He is to me as Myles, your true love, is to you. Though he may be human, the connection is there. I truly adore him." I answered honestly, glancing over my own shoulder at Landon now. He gave me a weak smile. Elsie nodded, bowed, and went down the adjacent hallway. I smiled to myself as I walked over to my brother, and my boyfriend.

Landon's presence made it so that every single person we passed looked our way, and not just a glance; they watched our every movement. The attention I normally got wasn't this intense, but tonight it was. Landon hardly noticed, he was busying talking about everything in the world with Xandiar; everything in both worlds.

Once we reached the end of the hall, we turned left where we were greeted by two gaurds standing on either side of two massive stone doors. They pulled the doors open, ushering only the 3 of us inside. They both eyed Landon with immense curoiusity.

Queen Alayana was sitting on her throne, many elders surrounded around her, all talking in hushed tones. As we entered, all conversation ceased. As many times as Xandiar have been around the elders, they always stopped to marvel at our beauty, and the enegery we radiated. We were truly special. Everyone knew that.

Alayana rose, striding forward to greet us. She smiled at Landon. He smiled right back.

"What do I owe the pleasure of meeting you?" she addressed him fully, putting her hand out towards him. I was nervous, unsure of what he would do. Landon always surprised me, though. He held her hand with the lightest of touched, and kissed the back of her hand. I didn't know how he'd known to do that; then I remembered that he'd seen someone do it to me before. Alayana seemed thoroughly pleased.

"I'm not sure, but I can assure you that the pleasure is all mine." Landon replied quickly, certain, calm. My heart skipped a beat. I was honestly beyond proud of him. Alayana smiled at me, and shook her head.

"You sure know how to pick them, my daughter. Keep him; he's the one for you." I blushed profusely; Landon brushed my hair from my face and kissed my cheek. He was too nervous to let anything really bother him..

"Also, we'll be having the confrence prior to the ball, this once." Alayana added, and I nodded. How odd.

Rather than sit at my throne, and make Landon stand alone, I stood in front of him; his arms wrapped around my waist. It was typical for anyone in Antiorpita to be so close to their loved one, but I was truly human at heart.

Without warning, the doors to the throne room were shut. Chairs were places in a half-circle around the room; one places directly beside my throne. I led Landon across the room, and we sat in the chairs. He looked around curiously.

Suddenly the chairs were full. Most of the people were elders, and some were knights, and some were civilian people that lived in Antiorpita. Queen Alayana cleared her throat ever so slightly, and the room went silent.

"Thank you all for joining me here tonight, though I wish it were under better circumstances." she began, smiling a smile so real that I couldn't believe it was fake. I was in her head, though, so I knew she was under a lot of stress. Alayana was the ruler of our world, which meant she was responsible for the safety of our people. I was right there with her; she was a great queen, but she always missed a little bit. That was where I came in.

"As many of you have seen, there are dark spirits and shadows all around us now. Not only in Antiorpita, but also on Earth. That is not a good omen. There is plenty of magic here, but we will need more on Earth in the coming months. Princess Xania simply cannot do it all herself, though she wishes she could." Alayana smiled at me, and I smiled back. Oh, how I wish I could do everything.

"We'll send some of our warriors to the human world, and I expect that Xandiar would like to venture to Earth once more?" Alayana glanced back at Xandiar, and he was smiling. I knew he would love to go to Earth.

"Well, that's settled. Ten warriors, Xandiar, and myself will go to Earth." Alayana announced, and much to my displeasure, adjourned the conference and ushered us all out to the ball.

I felt like we had gotten  nothing accomplished. It made no sense to me. Alayana nodded to me, as if she agreed with me. I sighed heavily, and stood. Landon also seemed flabbergasted that it was such a short meeting.

The ball downstairs was in full swing. Of course the palace had a massive ball room with balconies and the whole nine yards. Landon looked around in awe. He'd never seen anything this extravagant, I'm sure.

"It's beautiful, isn't it?" I said, smiling at him. He didn't look at me for a moment, but the smile on his face was dazzling.

"Yeah, you are beautiful."

The evening went on into the early morning hours, for Antiorpita at least. Time stood still for us on Earth. Landon, Xandiar and I spent the evening together, for the most part. Greeting people every now and then, mostly talking and dancing though. It was great fun.

After the ball, Alayana pulled me aside. She told me that she'd be putting a spell on my family so that they thought Alayana and Xandiar were part of the family.

"Not Dem, though. He already knows, and he wants to know more. He'd love to meet you all." I told her, and she smiled. That was okay with her, if it was okay with me.

"Xandiar will be going back with you now. The spell is already in place; he's your other brother, if you don't mind."

Landon, Xandiar and I spent another hour together just discussing things that were important for when we got to Earth.

"Oh, and we're going to have to call you Alexander now. It's more Earth-y. I'm Marilyn, okay?" I told him, and he nodded. Alexander, Xandiar; it was nearly the same thing.

It was time to go, then. I held tightly to each of their arms, and we were gone.
