Mother had enrolled me into a cooking class at eleven years old, because I had begged and begged to enroll in a cooking class. It was good to have this skill, cooking is essential. My younger sister definitely wasn't as enthusiastic, but she knows the basics of cooking and such. She said she'll just grow a garden or something and live off of that, ha! I think I would die if I had to actually go outside.
I had excelled at cooking class, and just stopped taking it only a year ago actually. Making food was fun, and so was making sweets. My favorite dessert I had made was green tea mochi ice cream, simple but delicious. Uiro was delicious too, I loved making them chestnut flavored, and don't even get me started on chocolate dumplings, which weren't traditional Japanese deserts but they tasted good anyway.
My favorite Japanese breakfast food to make was actually chijimi with spicy dipping sauce, but I didn't make it too often.
American omelets I had found were very simple and easy to make for breakfast, and I had taken all kinds of different culture cooking class and omelets were my favorite American breakfast food.
I melted some butter in a pan. I heard my sweet little sister singing an English song.
"Where did you learn that? At school?" I asked her as I cracked some eggs into the pan with the melted butter.
"It's a song called, "Hold on to you" by someone named Nathan Sharp. I memorized the English lyrics after translating it in Japanese. It's from that app, YouTube. Not like I needed to," she told me.
Technically, Mao can speak English. As can I, both we can fluently, but we didn't really use it much in daily lives. Even though she and I can speak English, she still likes to translate in Japanese and write it down so around her friends she can sing it and they'll understand.
"It sounds very emotional and beautiful," I commented, pulling out mushrooms, onions and tomatoes. I also took some cheddar cheese out, and put them all on the eggs. I flipped the eggs.
"It's amazing, huh? I love it! It's like you and me. I'll hold on to you too," she said sweetly.
"Aw, you dumb sap," I responded, bringing her omelet over to the breakfast bar. She hit me slightly on my shoulder.
"The one time I decide to be affectionate," she grumbled.I also got down a bento lunch box I had prepared for her from the fridge. I got mine too, opened it and re heated it. Technically, it doesn't matter, and it's some extra to heat it up again but I did anyway.
I grabbed a green tea packet for sis and one for me two and made some tea using the tea pot. It's my favorite way to make tea. I added just a little sugar to her's, because it's too bitter for her without. I just drink mine plain.
I exited the kitchen and sat down next to my sister at the clean breakfast bar.
She noticed me sat down and I handed her a mug of green tea. "Fresh off the tea pot!" I told her, as I put my mug up to my lips.
"Aren't you gonna eat something, big sis?" she asked, nudging the rest of the omelet to me, "I can't finish mine if I know you won't eat," she insisted, tugging on her pony tail worryingly.
She worries just like our Mother, it's sweet. To make her feel more comfortable, I said thank you and finished off her omelet as a smile spread across her face. To be honest, I didn't really feel like eating, green tea was enough for me. But being the sweet heart she is, she worried and offered me the last of her breakfast. I'm lucky to have a sister like her.
Then I handed her the lunch box. "Ooh! What's in it, sis?" she asked excitedly.
"Not telling exactly, but I can tell you I left a special treat in there," I told her sneakily.
