I heard the ring if my battery powered alarm clock go off and I sat up reluctantly. Why the heck am I waking up at five in the morning?
Oh right! I'm moving into the school today! Yeah, now I can do so much stuff at school and I don't have to worry about money. I'm still paying it off, but not with tangible dollars. All I hope is that he, the principal, has taken care of all of the legal troubles and worries, because then I wouldn't even be able to live there and that would ruin everything.
Hmm, you know what's weird? The principal hasn't even said his last name at all to any of the students, and I haven't heard the teachers say it either. It doesn't even say it on his official office door.
It was still kind of dark in the sky on the account of the fact it's early in the morning. But, I still stood up and stretched out my body and rolled my wrists around until I was satisfied. I have to get dressed so I can pack up my things as quickly as possible.
Standing up and reaching for my bag, and my backpack. I found a pair of clothes I could use. In fact, the other ones were—
Wait. Where were the other clothes at all??
Sighing and looking around I didn't see them anywhere. I guess I'll settle with my small gray t-shirt. It had a small hearts etched around the chest area, the color being purple and (fav color.) Next, I put on a pair of white and orange jeans, which were actually a bit tighter than normal. I'm pretty convinced that these were the clothes my mom told me to throw out but I kept anyway. I don't know why I kept them, but I did. After that, I put on some long-ish socks that I slid under my jeans, and put on my shoes. Thank goodness I found my shoes at least.
Moving around and looking at my surroundings, all I found were socks and a few ties. Since I needed to pack up, I needed to find these other clothes...
Slipping in through the trees, I found a t shirt with a cat meme on it, I found a few pairs of thigh high socks, a very short mini skirt–which looks more like it would be Mao's and had just gotten mixed up in my drawer–another two shirts, one bra and three ties and a knee length skirt. All of these clothing items were dry, but looked like they had shrank a bit. Most of my clothes are cotton, and when cotton is thrown into a dryer it gets shrunk down a bit. But...wha?? There isn't just a random washer and dryer in the middle of the woods! Maybe I'll never know, but whoever did that should know I don't appreciate it one bit, even though the thought was nice.
I skipped over to my two bags and swung it up onto my shoulder. Quickly looking in the bag I found a book I can read to school. It was about a girl who passes on to the afterlife, and has to train with her guide to learn how to be a soul catcher. (Kudos to whoever knows what book I'm talking about.)
Taking fairly long strides, I went the back way again with my nose buried in my book. I think reading my mom's journal might kill off any enthusiasm I have for moving in to the school.
Moving around the trees and winding through paths, and making a quick, um, detour (playing with a kitten), I arrived at the school. Opening the school doors I found that it wasn't locked, which means that the principal had taken care of things.
Moving around the school and reaching his office, I knocked softly and heard a sing sung, "Come in!" from behind the heavy wooden door.
Opening the door, I saw my principal spinning slightly around in his wheely chair and...holding a cat in his arms. His face was pure joy. Cat person, huh?
Me, witnessing this, I wasn't able to hold back a laugh. I laughed at the scene in front of me, he seemed so happy and child like. It was refreshing.
He cleared his throat and set the feline down on his desk, straightened his tie and tried to assume an adult like, authoritative(if that's a word) position and said, "Well, er, good mooorning (y/n)," stretching out the 'o' sound in morning.
Giggling again, I waved at him and sat down in one of the black chairs in front of his desk. "Good mooorning to you as well sir," I greeted, stretching out the 'o' sound as well.
I noticed the cat jump up from the desk and onto my lap, looking up at me. Giggling yet again I started petting it and it settled down into my lap, relaxed and looking like a gray puffball of a cat. How cute! I love cats. And dogs. And birds. And fish, and, well, animals. It always broke my heart when I ate meat, but trying to be a vegetarian was like trying to only breathe carbon dioxide.
The principal let out a fan-girlish squeal and said, "Isn't she just the cutest? I found her sleeping next to my door. I took her to a vet and with no collar or identity chip, the vet said I could just keep her. I call her Captain Fluffles," he said, smiling and walking in front of me to pet the now asleep cat that was sitting in my lap.
Laughing a for a few seconds I looked at him. Gasping from my laughing session, I asked again, "Captain..Fluffles? That's brilliant!"
He sat down at his desk. "My assistant thought it was too, childish and unadult-like to keep a cat at all, much less name it Captain Fluffles," he grumbled, then called out, "You hear that, Lisa!! Captain Fluffles is BRILLIANT!" he called out to the next room over, his assistant's office.
I heard a reply. "SIR! I'm afraid that I've reached my limit of CHILDISH for today!!" Lisa called back.
The principal just crossed his arms and started muttering with an annoyed look on his face. When his mumble session was over, he looked back at me, as I laughed at her response for a few seconds, then calming down. You know, I wonder what his name is, I know his assistant's.
"Excuse me, sir? But I don't know if you know, but I don't actually know your name," I asked. It's a bit strange to me, shouldn't I know his name?
"I like to keep that more of a secret, but actually if you'd like to know, I'm Mr. Amano, call me Kaede," he said, taking a spin around in his spinny chair, stopping with his foot.
"O-oh! Really, I could call you Mr. Amano," I insisted. Calling him by his first name seemed a bit disrespectful. Hmm. So he actually doesn't like to tell people.
"It's totally fine, in my school everyone calls me Kaede! First names means friends, and we're all friends here. Being on different social levels is such a bore," he insisted right back at me with a casual wave of his hand.
Well okay then. "Alright, Kaede," I said with a smile.
On my lap, I felt the cat stirring. It stood up, yawned adorably, and hopped off of me. I saw it walk and jump onto the window sill and climb into a flower pot, settling itself down onto the bed of flowers and falling asleep.
Kaede and I looked at it with a smile. He turned to me then with a more "let's-get- things-done" kind of look and said, "Alright, I think we've spent enough time doing this. Let's go to the basement." He stood up and I did too, swinging my bags over my shoulder.
Wordlessly, we walked around the school and down into the basement. I noticed the room was a bit dusty, but surprisingly organized. I saw a whole shelf with school records all neatly beside each other, another book case with actual books, like library books and textbooks, and I saw some cleaning supplies in the corner of the room. On the sides of the gray wall were shelves, filled with school supplies and other things. On the ceiling was one light, currently on, it's light splattering all over the dark gray floors and shelves.
He led me passed, what looked like, the main part of the basement and into a room.
It was literally a bedroom. It had a small twin bed with one white pillow and a red blanket on it closest to the left wall and a little nightstand next to it, with a dusty lamp that was off at this time. Closer to the right wall was a chipped-paint white bookshelf, with zero books to speak of. The ground was just plain dark wood. I also noticed a little closet that was on the right wall close to the door, with a sliding kind of door. There was a broom along with a dust pan and a duster in the very corner of this bedroom, kind of near the bed.
Kaede laughed. "Yeah, kind of weird, huh? I mean a bedroom in the school basement? What? But anyway, I hope you can feel safer here rather than where ever else you were," he said, chirpy.
He walked over to the closet and opened the door. He grabbed something and walked back over to me, holding a girl's uniform. "I didn't know if you had one of your own, so I just went ahead and got one," he explained, handing it to me.
Wow, he really didn't have to, but it's nice he did. I looked down and noticed the skirt was a bit longer than normal.
"Thank you Kaede, but what's with the extra long skirt?" I asked, holding up my outfit.
I heard him let out a little annoyed sigh. "I'm sorry, that doesn't seem offensive, right? I just didn't know what you'd prefer."
I smiled. "I like the long one, thanks."
He laughed. "Hmm, yeah for sure. But anyway, I'll leave you to get settled. If you want to go to school, you can but if you feel like you need to get accustomed, I'm fine excusing you. But at the end of the day, I do need to show you where to clean and such. So I'll come down here," he offered with a smile.
I'm sure mom and Mao wouldn't mind if I missed just one day, it couldn't do harm. "Actually sir, it would be nice if I could spend a day just getting settled," I said, choosing my answer.
"Alrighty then! I'll let your teachers know," he said, bouncing out of the room.
Almost immediately I said him pop back in. "Also, any of those books on the bookshelves are yours to use, but not the student records," he explained, then taking his final leave.
As I heard his footsteps grow fainter and fainter, I plopped down on my bed. All I really want to do is sleep for a little while. But I have unpacking to do...but I want to sleep.
I gripped the necklace I had on, almost unaware. This necklace is so pretty. I need to get up though.
I reluctantly stood up off of the bed. I just need to unpack, all it is. I started taking out all of my belongings and I started to put all of my clothes into my closet, hanging them on the rack. It's a pretty nice room, pretty bare though. I can't really work for money–well, I could but,–so this room is gonna have to stay bare for a good long while unless I can find a job. Maybe I can do that.
Pulling my alarm clock off of my bed, I set it on my nightstand. All of the books in my bag went straight to the bookcase.
I had my toothbrush but...there's no bathroom. If this basement has a bedroom, it probably must have a bathroom then.
Walking out from my room, I looked everywhere for another room and found one close to my bedroom. Hopefully this a bathroom, and lo and behold! it is one. So I put my bathroom..stuff in the bathroom and left to go get into my bed. No one will mind if I take a little nap...

Zzz..."Hey, hey (y/n), wake up," I heard a soft voice and I felt myself being shaken gently.
"Five more minutes mom..." I snored, my eyes still closed most of the way. Wait, that voice...it was a dude's voice!
I heard him laugh as I opened my eyes. It was Kaede. "Well, not quite (y/n)!" He laughed as my face went red with embarrassment.
I sprung up out of bed, rubbing my eyes a little. I think he was startled because he backed up a bit. "Oh I'm sorry Kaede! Your not my mom, um, sorry about that," I apologized over and over again.
With that classic anime sweat drop look he held his hands out in front of him. "Really, it's fine. But now I have to show you all of your cleaning...stuff," he assured me, walking over to the door.
Following him we climbed up the stairs and around the halls until we reached the janitor's closet. He opened it. "Alright (y/n), I think you know how to use these, right? Well, you just mop the hallways, sweep the classrooms and find trash on the floors and stuff, just normal janitor things. Think you can handle that?" Kaede asked.
I nodded, determined. This is child's play. God, I seem like such a housewife.
"Good. Now since you wanted make the school lunches and all, let's take you to the cafeteria," he said as we walked to the cafeteria from our spot in the hallway.
We got to our cafeteria. The cafeteria has a few yellow tables out, and it had clean white tiles that sparkled slightly under the white lights in the ceiling.
We went inside the cooking area and I saw all of the supplies and all of the food. Ooh, that's nice, they actually have more things than expected.
"Yeah, so starting tomorrow you can help out, if you want," he told me, "now, let's take you back to your room, yeah,?" he offered with a smile.
We looped around the halls some and we wound up in the hall my class was in.
Next to our classroom door I saw...
Wait. Nagisa?!
He spotted me instantly and ran towards me. Oh no.
Kaede stepped out of the way like a smart person, while I just stood there like a deer caught in the headlights of a car. He tackled me in a hug, almost knocking me down as I squeaked from the force of the hit. I was spun around, and I saw the face of my principal. He was smirking! What the heck?
Nagisa let me go and looked me right in the eye. "I was so worried about you! You've never missed a day of school this whole year! I thought you were dead, or kidnapped, or really, really, sick! I didn't think you are safe!" Nagisa ranted, hugging me again and giving me a little kiss on the cheek.
Now I could literally see the smirk on Kaede's face grow wider. It's not what he thinks! I gave him a desperate look to show so.
He seemed to understand, but still kept that knowing look on his face.
Nagisa let go of me once again. "Well, I'm glad that your just as fine as ever, but I wanted to ask you if you can watch the swim club like last time. You don't have to put a swim suit on or anything, and swim practice has already started, but it would be a lot better with you there!" he insisted, nit even giving me time to think as he started dragging me to the pool area.
I suppose I could watch them. Seeing the guys twice made me less nervous to be around them, so it was more okay with me now.
We got to the pool area, and Nagisa took off the shirt he had on. When he entered the building he had on a shirt and his swimsuit, and now he's already in the pool.
I just sat down in one of the beach chairs that was close to the pool. I watched them swim for the rest of practice. None of them really acknowledged me, but that's good. I didn't want to much attention anyway. Nagisa waved to me a couple of times though.
So I just watched them so normal swim team stuff and before long it was time for all of them to go their separate ways. As usual, Nagisa offered to walk me home. And as usual, I said no. But obviously, I live at the school.
He eventually gave up trying and went home, and I lingered a little while to make sure that everyone had left before going back inside of the school.
When I went into the building, I took a few twists and turns to reach Kaede's office. I noticed he was still at his desk, working on some principal things.
"Kaede? I just wanted to say good night. Please get some rest," I wished him a good night.
"As to you, too," he said in response.
I walked through the halls and climbed down the basement stairs and into my room. Taking my shoes off, I payed down under the covers and fell asleep.
