"In two weeks, twenty-three of you will be dead, one of you will be alive, who that is depends on how well you pay attention over the next four days, particularly to what I'm about to say"

I smirk, loving the way that when she said 'one of you will be alive' her eyes flickered over to meet mine. We're all in the training center for our first official day of training. The training center is an underground gymnasium filled with training stations and obstacle courses. This is where us Tributes prepare and practice for the challenges in the arena. The training stations spaced throughout the center are based on different skills that may be used in the arena, which include knot tying, identifying edible plants and insects, camouflage, and practicing with weapons. Experts are placed at each station to instruct and serve as training partners for us all, because it's 'forbidden' for us to fight one another before the Games begin.

We all wear identical training uniforms, the only difference is our District number on our short sleeves.

"First, no fighting with the other Tributes, you'll have plenty of time for that in the arena" I look over at the Tributes, my eyes land on one girl, who seems to be smirking. Then I realize why, she's a career. She looks strong, healthy, brawny and fit. She has dark hair, which is in a ponytail, dark eyes and some freckles.  She looks about 5'4, meaning she's slightly smaller than most of the Tributes here.

"There are four compulsory exercises, the rest will be individual training, but my advice is, don't ignore the survival skills" My eyes flicker to the boy next to her. Then it's my time to smirk, it's the boy who was giving me the evil glare yesterday, the one whose brother I killed in the final battle last year. He continues his now famous glare at me, and then looks away.

"Everyone will want to grab a sword but most of you, will die from natural causes. 10% from infection 20% from dehydration, exposure can kill as easily as a knife."

Now we're all on the bars, where we have to swing from one bar to the other. The Careers fly through them, while others fail, and fall to the ground, which will hurt, a lot. I of course have no problem with them, so once I've reached the end, I walk around for a bit, examining my fellow Tributes.

Some I look at for a while, others, I laugh at because they look like the easiest to kill. I scan the center, and my eyes land on someone in particular at the edible plants and insects station. A small girl with thick dark hair, dark satiny brown skin and golden eyes. She's stood leaning forward, on her toes, with both arms slightly extended. I walk over to the station, and fold my arms as I stand slightly behind her, while she listens to the instructor carefully.

"Now can you tell me what this one is?" he asks her, showing her a weird looking plant.

"Amaranth"

"Correct! Now you can eat all parts of this plant, but be on the look out for spikes that appear on some of the leaves." and he walks back to the table.

"That was quite impressive eleven" I lean down to whisper in her ear. She jumps a little, but doesn't turn, in fact, she doesn't say a word.

"Not speaking to me are you? Maybe you would like to know who's talking to you" So I move in front of her, and lean down, so I'm exactly eye level with her. Her eyes widen a little, but doesn't look away like the others, which surprises me.

"What's your name?" I ask

"Rue"

"Nice to meet you Rue, from District-" But I was cut off when we hear a loud crash from the middle of the center.

"What the hell are you playing at kid?!" we hear someone roar. Everyone's stopped to watch the scene progress in front of them.

"I didn't mean to Cato! Chill!"

"DO. NOT. TELL. ME. TO .CHILL!" and with that, he shoves a boy from District five hard onto the ground. Peacekeepers come running over, restraining Cato from attacking him anymore.

"Hmm" I smirk, as Cato catches my eye. I turn to Rue, who's still watching the scene.

"I need you to do me a favor" Rue looks at me in the eye.

"It depends what it is" I smirk at her, and turn my head to face Cato.

The plan's about to go into action. I'm standing in the line with Katniss, who keep flinching every time the fighting Tribute.

"Hey, where's my knife!" Everyone looks at Cato, who looks as livid as ever.

"Where's my knife I left it right here!"

"I didn't touch it! I didn't touch your knife!" Once again, Peacekeepers come and take him away.

"You liar! Little punk!" I look up, and see Rue, exactly where I told her to be, holding onto Cato's knife. Katniss looks up too, along with the male District Eleven Tribute.

"I know, I'll wait for the arena, you'll be the first one i get so watch your back." I look around to see Eleven chuckle, and Katniss smile. She climbs down, and I wink at her.

"Mission complete" I say, placing my hand out which she slowly slapped her own hand onto

"Did it?" she asks, giving me the knife.

"Oh yeah, it sure did" I look around, and see Katniss frowning at me. I smirk at her, and throw the knife around Katniss, and to the target for the knife throwing station behind her. She gasps, and spins around. Her eyes become wide when she sees the knife landed right in the center of the target. I walk away from everyone, leaving both Katniss and Rue to stare after me in wonder.
