The browning leaves twisted and twirled for one last sorrowful dance in the wind before letting themselves crumple on the tarmac, like clothes thrown aside after long day; forgotten for the moment but once they were noticed, they were merely trodden on and crushed underfoot-but this time- rather than by a exhausted CEO, the leaves were flattened into the grey of the highway by the struggling group of teenagers trying to alert the other two groups at the top of the slope in the road, of the danger that had been trailing them.
Three reanimated, rotting corpses were frighteningly close, too close for comfort; not that comfort could ever be even felt for half a second with these malice, hideous creatures around.
A girl of around average height with light brown skin and eyes and hair a false welcoming colour of chocolate stood at the top of the hill with her blade unsheathed and eyes filled with something that was a mixture of determination, fear and that small glimmer of hope. With all those emotions swimming around; she prepared to attack those daring to threaten the safety of her friends.

So much had happened since Marshall had left that message on the cabin.
First, we'd ran into a group of three who'd gotten separated from their groups. They were lead by Josh who had them in a tight fighting formation but they were all still confused and scared. They had also brought a small herd of about 15 biters along for the ride, if we had all been prepared and not tired from walking, we could've easily fought them and won but still we tried.
Amidst the chaos Ola had gone missing shortly after Josh's group left. The remainder of our group had guessed Ola had gone with Josh since her close-combat skills were improving.
Now the stray dogs were returning to their pack after fleeing for so long.
I managed to get the attention of Lora and Kayleigh and we aimed for one of the biters each.
Kayleigh reached the group first and grabbed her selected mangled corpse, shoved it away from the others and stabbed her screwdriver through its one intact, sunken eye socket, as its other eye was dangling on its cheek, only held by a few straining nerves; if it let any more fingers go, it would fall off the cliff that was being a part of this monster, if eyes had the ability to feel emotions I suppose it would be glad.
Lora had chosen the weakest biter, which was apparent as it practically crumbled under her touch, which just left her to kick its brains in.
I was too caught up in watching the others I didn't notice the body shuffling its way towards me. I tried to rush at it and jab my blade into what was left of its skull but tripped and fell like a sack of flour. Hungry hands clawed and grabbed at me like I was some sort of living prize in a world that just one giant claw machine. I kicked and punched at the thing trying to take chunk of my flesh as a sort of crude souvenir.
Before the adrenaline and fear had time to sink in, I heard a squelching noise and felt the creature on top of me go limp. A wave of relief washed over me and I quickly shoved the disgusting thing off me.
"Hey smartass black ninja!" Josh called from near the now-unmoving corpse, a piece of jagged roof tile, with a red to black ombré, in his hand.
I waved my middle finger at his joking racist remark and went to check on the other three.
Ola was standing off from the other two, seemingly interested in staring at ground.
