The Selection

I woke up to Lily jumping up and down on my bed.

"Get. Out." I yelled while throwing my pillow at her.

"Have you decided yet?" She nagged recovering from my attack.

"Decided what?"

"You are so stupid. The selection you idiot." She said and I could practically hear her rolling her eyes.

"Get. Out. I will decide later I still have an hour before I have to be up so please just let me sleep." I said getting frustrated

"Ugh. Ok fine whatever." Lily said jumping off the bed and slamming my door closed

I couldn't ever fall back to sleep. So I got a head start on the day and took a shower and got dressed and all that jazz.

I walked down the stairs and greeted my family in the kitchen before heading off to work. I work as a musician. So I sing and play instruments at parties and stuff. Today I have to sing at a wedding. I'm getting paid $300 which will help out a ton!

I decided to go through with the selection so I grabbed my forms on my way out of the house. On my way to the wedding I got in the huge line do the picture taking and interview for the selection

There are so many people here. Short, fat, tall, thin, pretty, ugly, all different colored hair. Who knew there were this many single girls in Carolina?

About 30 minutes later I was next in line, so I turned in my forms and practiced my smile.

"Next!" The photographer screamed

I sat in the chair and smiled, thinking of Luke.

I walked away after my picture and headed off to the wedding.

I sang really well at the wedding and got a $60 tip. I think they felt bad for me but I accepted.  I walked home from there and happily have my mom the money with a huge smile.

"Wow honey. You work so hard. We are so thankful." My mom said tears working into her eyes.

We hugged. "No problem. I get all my talents from you." I said into her shoulder. It was true. She has her own singing business. I just work for her. She had the day off.

"Thanks sweetie."

I walked up to my room and practiced my violin for an hour and then went to outside. Luke was there working for my neighbor.

"Hey M." Luke said with a smile and his big blue eyes almost popping out from his eyes. I could see the love in them.

"I just signed up for the selection."

"Oh. Cool! Good." He said. I could hear the disappointment in his voice but I decided to move on.

"What are you doing?" I asked. He was doing some weird thing with a shovel.

"Oh. I'm digging a huge hole before I start the space for their garden." He said with a laugh.

"OHHH. That makes more sense thank what I was thinking..."

"What were you thinking?" He said with a smirk. Wow he smirks a lot

"Oh uh... I thought you were just digging a really deep hole for like a bush or something." I said with a blush.

"Not too far off!"

We both laughed.

"Well I have to go to the market to pick some stuff up for dinner so I will talk to you later!" I said giving him a hug. I walked off.

*6 days later*

Today is the day. They are announcing the selected. I have no clue why I'm so nervous. I do not even want to go 

"Did you have any work today?" My dad asked.

"Nope. Just hung out here. It has been kind of slow this past week."

"It's ok!Glad you are getting some time off."

"When is the show on tonight?"

"8 o'clock as always. Why?"

"They are announcing the selected." I said.

The show we are talking about is the only free show on TV. It is available for all castes. It is shot from the castle.

It is currently 7 P.M. so I have an hour before I know.

Lily should be coming home soon. Today is Monday and it is the only day Lily works. She is an assistant at a music store.

About 45 minutes later Lily ran in the door.

"15 MINUTES!!!" She said screaming and running into my arms.

"Be quiet before you cause an earthquake in New Asia" I said with a laugh.

She just rolled her eyes.

"I'm going to go make us some snacks while we are waiting" lily said with a huge smile.

If I get picked I will miss her so much. The most actually. We are very close.

After she made the snacks the whole family sat on the worn out couch in front of the TV.

It is starting!!! We were all speechless.

'Hello everyone!! I'm Joe as you probably know, the interviewer at the castle!! So before we make our big announcement we will be interviewing Prince Matthew!!!'

Joe said all of this with a smile.

Prince Matthew walked up to his chair. I mean I guess he is pretty good looking...

'Hey Joe!!'

'Hello. So I have a couple questions for you.
Are you scared about the selection?'

'Yes' Matthew said with a chuckle

'How's your family doing?'

'Umm pretty good I guess. I think they are all nervous too.'

'Last question. What are you looking for most in a girl?'

'I guess I am looking for honesty, loyalty, and I want her to be caring.'

'Aw so sweet. Well let's move on to our selected girls. They will be leaving their houses tomorrow!!!'

I was so nervous I didn't pay any attention at all until I heard my name. What? This can't be happening. My life is going to change forever.

"Congrats!!!" Alex said

I received multiple hugs and there was lots of screaming and phone calls but I was way to distracted to pay any attention.

Tomorrow I am leaving for the castle.
