Hey guys my name is Riley Hetherson, MVP of the basketball league of Elite Preparatory and currently the lead vocal of B.Y.E. If you are asking what it means, I don’t know but Toby just kind of picked it randomly, so yeah B.Y.E. I was part of the Committee set to arrange the stupid Christmas Ball. It is such a big deal to all the girls in school, because for me it is just a normal dance where you ask someone to dance with you. Being in this committee was a torture to me until I realized that Iris Smith was part of it as well. I have had a major crush on her ever since I got to know her real status. She is not your ordinary popular girl that all she knows is how to make themselves look pretty, no, she has high marks on each class. I know that I have no chance on being with her since she already have a boyfriend, but rumors says that they already broke off just today. What are the odds right!
We were asked to give out suggestions for the theme of the so called “ball”. And then Iris raised her hand and said that we should have a masquerade, I for one did not agree.
“I think it is too over the top. Why can’t we have a normal one where everyone comes in pretty party dresses?”
“But it can’t just stay what you call “normal”. A twist would be nice; it’ll make the party more special.” She protested, flipping her hair annoyingly.
“But the attendants are the ones whose gonna make it special.”
Iris raised an eyebrow at me, and then she smiled seemingly getting my point. “I have to agree on that one Riley.”
When I was just getting the hang of our conversion the head of the committee suddenly butted in. Really now? Of all times she needs to butt in!
“Since you two are really getting on the theme, I’ll just team you up.”
“WHAT?!” Iris said angrily
“Fine with me.”
“Fine with you, but not me!”
“No, no, no Ms. Smith my decision is final. You two are gonna work together on the decorations! Are we understood?”
“Of course Ms.”
“And you Ms. Smith?”
“Do I have a choice?”
“Well then, the rest of you come with me. I still need to assign you to your assignments. The two of you start working now!”
And that was our cue to exit the room and start making preparations. Guess I’m stuck with her. In the middle of our work I question pooped out of my mind, not knowing that I was asking her it.
“Iris, is it true that you broke up with James?”
She looks startled but then she opened her mouth and replied
“Guess news flies so fast huh?”
“Well what can I do, a little bird came flying around and told me!” I joked
“So funny Riley.” she said sarcastically
“But really now, is it true?”
“Yeah.”
I don’t know why but that word just made me smile a……little. James’ loss, my gain. I finally have the chance I have been waiting for. Thank heavens!
There was an awkward silence around us. I looked at her while she was busy jotting down different ideas we had a while ago. Then I finally cracked the question.
“Ms. Iris Smith may I court you?”
