I'd been standing around beside the bakery, completely on my own when finally my iPhone buzzed with an incoming email. I quickly read through the message from the Update. It's an apology, but I don't accept it.
So my Update isn't coming today. Sorry, "the Update". He's not mine. So no big deal. I mean, everything is fine, right? I don't need to see him. I don't need to feel the thrill of his sweeping presence or his sly little smirk or... Wait, did I just say sweeping presence?
I reread the email. It's mostly just a list:
- Improved error messaging design on the login & signup screen
- Easy access to your reading lists in the Library (via a new Reading Lists tab)
- Ability to edit your birthday under Settings
- Improved "add tags" screen in the writer
- Also... I fixed annoying little bugs like the one that restricted search results on the search page, among others. I know how you like it when I do that.
But at the bottom, he signed it xo Update. And, naturally, it was followed by a 😉
So 6.7.11 stands me up and he still has me grinning like a mule eating briars. I take a deep sigh. Who am I kidding? It's clearly not like that between us. I casually toss the two pastries I had bought for us to share into the trash and walk away.
