The Selection

Chapter 4

"Yes of course, after we wake you up and get you ready tomorrow we will start working on it while you are at breakfast and lessons for the day." Hannah exclaimed.

They started to try to tuck me in and I told them I could do it myself but thanked them and sent them off to their own rooms. 

I really miss my family. I started to write a letter to my Dad about how amazing it is here and I was about to ask about mom when I started crying. I did not know I missed them this much. I couldn't breathe in this room anymore and my small patio wasn't enough I ran out of my room past the guards and into the gardens which were right outside. 

"Miss you need to get back to your room it is late and you have a big day tomorrow." One of the guards say pointing back to my room. 

"NO!" I said in between my cries. I did not want to go back in there. I really needed some air.

"Miss-"

"Leave her be." Some guy interrupted her, I assumed it was another guard but I turned around and it was Prince Matthew!! 

"But-"

"But nothing, I order you to get back to your post and leave her be. She also gets to come out here whenever she pleases." Matthew continued. 

"Thank you." I whispered. 

He smiled. "No problem! I'm very sorry what is your name?" 

"I'm Margaret." I said sniffling. I really need to stop crying. He came over and try to grab my arm to help me off the ground I assume. 

"I can do it myself. Thanks." I said in a rude tone. I am not 5 years old I can do it myself.

He laughed "ok, ok" 

"You think this is funny?" I said my vice getting louder

"Uh...I mean I guess." 

I groaned. "Can I just be alone please?" 

"What's wrong?" He asked getting closer.

"Please just go away." I said tears trying to come out again. I could see the hurt in his eyes. I guess he has never been rejected before.

"I will, but can you please just tell me what's wrong? Maybe I can help you." He said coming over and touching my arm

"Do not touch me!!!" I screamed. 

"Please do not scream everyone else is asleep."

"I am sorry, Someone came to warn us about being here and told me that we would have to do ANYTHING you asked and I really was not in the mood for that anything.." I said while blushing. I could tell he was getting angry. 

"They told you that? Why would I want to do that I am just trying to help you." 

"Yeah. They did." 

"Oh. Well I am very sorry." 

"It is ok, I am just crying because I miss my family and I needed some fresh air." 

"So the patio just wasn't good enough for you then?" He said with a chuckle. His pretty white teeth showing. 

I shook my head and smiled too. 

"Well it was nice meeting you Margaret. I look forward to seeing you again tomorrow. I have to go but I will see you then!" He said and smiled and walked off.

I decided to head back to my room and get some sleep.

The morning came all to quickly and my maids were here getting me up and ready to meet the prince. Even though we already met...last night. They got me all ready and put me in a simple little sundress with some light makeup and some curls in my hair. 

I said thank you and hugged all of them before going off to breakfast. The royal family was there including Matthew and He kept looking at me and smirking. Oh great.  I tried to keep quiet the whole time but the food was sssoo amazing!! 

"MMMM" I said. I tried to be quiet but laughing faces turned towards me. "Oh my goodness I am so sorry I was just thinking how these strawberry tarts are so amazing."I said with a laugh. 

"Im glad you like them." Said the queen with a laughing smile. 

"My sister would cry if she ate these." I said, getting a little sad thinking of Lily. 

"I would like to bet on that." Prince Matthew said. "If she does not cry you have to go on a date with me tomorrow and if she does...-"

"I get to wear pants." I interrupted earning a gasp from everyone at the table.

"Only on Saturdays. All the other days we might have guests and such." Said the queen.

"Deal." Said the prince. 

I nodded and we continued eating as if nothing ever happened. I really did not want to go on this date so hopefully she will cry. 

After breakfast we had a lesson and then we were going off to meet the prince a little more casually. 

I was the last person to go. 

"Hello again My dear." Matthew said with a wink.

"Do not call me that." 

"Ok ok. What is your problem?" He said

"I am just going to be honest but I am just here for the money. My family really needs it. We are 5's." I said embarrassed. 

"Well look, I ill try to keep you here as long as possible. But will you promise me you will try to give me a chance? I see something in you that I do not see in the other girls." He said with a smile. 

I nodded and thanked him and we had some more small talk and then we all left. I spent the day with Isabella and Ella because we were put in a group project together. 

Then a huge alarm went off and guards came in ushering us away. Everyone was so scared. Some even crying!! What is happening?
