I watch Rowen run around frantically, trying to get anyone to notice her. But she's going to all the wrong people, if only she'd come over here. I guess I have to do all the work around here.

Sighing, I soak up the warmth of the sun, enjoying the beautiful weather. Last night's storm was scary, and scary familiar. It was just like the night my life changed forever. It was so long ago, but it feels like it was only yesterday.

I remember taking my golden retriever Ricky out for a walk, the sky was gray, and the clouds looked kinda angry. But it definitely didn't look as bad, as it soon was going to get. I was only about a block from home when the wind picked up, and the sky turned black. I remember Ricky going crazy, he kept pulling at the leash, and barking like mad. He eventually pulled free of my grip, and started running in the direction of home.

I started running after him, calling out to him the whole time. When I was rounding the corner to my neighborhood, the rain started coming down, and it was coming down hard. I was soaked through in seconds. The first crash of thunder and lightning was so close to me, that I lost my footing, and fell. As I was getting back up, I remember hearing the crackling in the air, and feeling the hair on my arms stand on end from all the electricity. I didn't have any warning, or time to react. One minute it was storming out, the next, the birds were singing and I was being blinded by the sun. Getting up with a groan, I proceeded to my house, only to find out both my parents and little sister couldn't see me.

It was horrible, seeing them all suffer, and not being able to do anything. Especially when you're the source of their suffering, it's very depressing. I think the hardest part about being able to hear and see everything, but not having anyone be able to see or hear you. Is watching everyone grow up, and go on with their lives without you. I watched my little sister grow up, get married, and now she has a daughter. My niece Noelle, and she doesn't even know I exist. It's enough to make anyone go insane, and that's why my first thoughts on seeing the girl running around from person to person. Was that I'd finally gone insane, that my mind had made someone up for me, to help me cope with the loneliness. But then I realized I recognized the girl.

It was Rowen Nightingale, she babysits my niece Noelle. Why is she act-ing... oh no, no no no. This can't be happening, she can't be like me. How could something happen like this again, and why Rowen? She's so sweet and nice, and she'd never do anything wrong or hurt anyone. I can practically feel the utter defeat and helplessness take over her whole demeanor.

I watch Rowen run around frantically, trying to get anyone to notice her. But she's going to all the wrong people, if only she'd come over here. I guess I have to do all the work around here.

Getting up from where I'm sitting, I walk over to where Rowens sitting on the swings, waiting for her to notice me standing there. After a while, I realize she's in her own little would, and I clear my throat to get her attention. Her head snaps up and her eyes meet mine.

"Hi, is anyone using this swing?" I ask her.

"No..." she says cautiously.

"Cool!" I say happily, throwing her a grin in the process.

I sit down on the swing next to her, noting that she's watching my every move closely. I've never been able to swing on a swing properly. I can feel her staring at me and studying me. But I pretend I don't notice, still trying my hardest to get the stupid swing moving.

"Wait... you can see me!?" She asks me, surprise evident in her voice.

"Yep!" I say, still concentrating really hard on getting the swing to work properly.

Man I hate these things.

"But how?" She asks, confusion evident in her voice.

"Same way you can see me" I say, biting my tongue in concentration.

Dang it, I nearly got the proper swinging motion that time.

"Huh?" She says, her annoyance with me not very well hidden.

"I too was struck by lightning" I say, looking up at her, and being completely serious for the first time since coming over to her.

"Who are you?" She asks me cautiously.

"I'm Maxfield Young, but you can call me Max" I say, throwing her a grin.

I can see the recognition on her face when I tell her my last name, and when she opens her mouth, I know I'm about to be asked a million questions. So I quickly put my hand over her mouth and shake my head.

"No time for any questions right now" I say, removing my hand from over her mouth.

"It's not like anyone is going to hear us, but let's go somewhere a little more private" I say, grabbing her hand and pulling her to her feet.

"When we get to where I live, I want you to tell me what happened to you, and then I promise I'll answer any questions you may have for me" I say, pulling her in the direction of my little hideaway.

"Umm okay?" She says, letting me pull her along with me.

"Wait..." she says stopping suddenly.

"What is it now?" I ask, getting a little impatient to learn what happened her.

"Why haven't you asked me who I am yet? For all you know, I could be some wanted murderer or something along those lines" she says, crossing her arms over her chest, and resting her weight on one hip.

"Because... I already know who you are Rowen Marie Nightingale... and don't ask me how I know, I just do, and in time, you will come to know how I do" I giving her a look saying that I wasn't going to say anything else on the matter.

"Come on, let go now" I say to her, waving my hand in a 'let's go' motion, as I begin walking again.

"Fine..." she says, jogging to catch up to me.

I catch her muttering to herself angrily after she catches up, and I have to stifle a laugh.

"Where do you live anyways?" She asks, not trying at all, to hide how dejected she is.

"The old abandoned house on Willows Lane" I say smirking, already knowing the next few words that are going to come out of her mouth.

"Wait, you mean that old haunted house on Willows Lane?" She asks, looking a little bit spooked.

"Yep! and guess what?" I say smirking at her.

"What?" She asks cautiously, looking like she's preparing for the worst.

"You're talking to its ghost" I say, winking at her, and laughing at her shocked face.

Boy, it's feels so nice to be able to talk to someone again. I've missed being able to do that.
