There's a reason you just can't up and stab someone in he middle o battle (without magical enhancement or something explosive) And that's because when a beings guard is up they have a magical barrier or Aura protecting them from being killed from smaller dangers. The shield can be a lifesaver at times but it's not invincible. After enough times of getting hit the shield will shatter leaving the life form vulnerable to almost anything.
The shield is like armor minus the extra weight. For the average non magic users shield is about as strong as a thin metal pole or tree bark but for average magic users it could range from a wooden table to
Cement.When I talk about the the strength I mean how durable it is not as in if you punch someone there skin is as hard as that substance. Now depending on the type of being(Or creature) the shield will take time to recover and shields recover will happen on it own not using any magic to do this but can use magic to recover faster.
