15. the broken vase
"Nayeon-ah, please open the door..." Mina begged from the other side of the locked door. All she could hear was Nayeon's crying and it deeply worried her. She breathed heavily and leaned against the door, sitting on the ground.
"Please, just talk to me. Even like this, I'll listen to you cursing me. But please... at least, give me a chance to explain-"
"Explain for what? You think you can fool me like Dahyun did? I'm not blind, Mina! I saw you kissing her," Nayeon took a pause to calm her heavy heart filled with hurt. Mina closed her eyes, "Nayeon, I'm not like Dahyun. I won't hurt you."
Nayeon didn't respond back. However, Mina could still feel the other girl's presence on the other side of the door so she decided to keep talking.
"... I love you, Nayeon. Can you please let me in? If you, even after I explain everything, don't believe me... I'll accept it. But at least, give me a chance," Mina pleaded sincerely.
There was silence and then Mina felt the door collide with her body, causing her to tumble back.
"Ow..." Mina groaned as her head hit the pole which was connected to the staircase rails.
"Oh my, I'm sorry! Are you okay?!" Nayeon ran over to Mina's side in an instant, but the latter felt her heart soften from the older girl's concern. She softly smiled as she felt Nayeon's hand caressing her head.
"I'm okay... especially now that I can see your face." Mina softly whispered. Even in the dark, Mina could see Nayeon's cheeks turn pink from her previous comment.
Nayeon sighed softly, "Stand up." She suddenly turned serious again before turning her back to Mina and leading her into their room.
As Mina closed the door, Nayeon sat at the edge of the bed and patted the empty spot next to her.
"I'll give you no longer than 3 minutes to explain. The longer your explanation is, the more I'll suspect that you're making up stories."
Mina nodded and Nayeon looked into her eyes, signaling her to start.
"Momo was drunk when I found her at the bar. She started to rant about how... how she liked me in the past."
Nayeon's face turned stone cold, but nonetheless, she continued to listen.
"It turns out what I've been thinking was right. Dahyun and Momo were planning something against us, and... it totally backfired against Momo. I didn't want to tell you this because I wasn't that cruel. I can see that Dahyun's a nice girl and... I didn't want you to hate her because of my baseless accusations, so... I just kept it a secret. I guess that was a bad choice on my part."
Nayeon looked at her watch and 3 minutes have past. She didn't say anything. She believed Mina now. Everything made sense to her.
"Anyway, Momo told me that she loves Dahyun now. But it seems like... Dahyun still likes you, Nayeon." Mina continued.
"If you're wondering what everything I just said has to do with the kiss from earlier- I think she thought I was Dahyun because she said 'I love you' right before it happened..."
Mina paused and looked to see how Nayeon was reacting. Surprisingly, Nayeon nodded in understanding.
"Thank you," Nayeon spoke after a minute of silence.
"I'm sorry if I doubted you earlier. I should've known those two girls were up to something. Everything you just said makes sense. I'm still a bit confused but I know one thing for sure..."
Nayeon brought Mina's face closer to hers and leaned their foreheads into each other's,
"... that you love me."
