Andrew and I have gone way back, since high school. It started with freshman year English, of course I thought he was cute, but I never thought he'd notice me. Well I was wrong. I found out senior year when he asked me to prom that he liked me too.
We actually went to the same college and graduated the same year. I wanted to be a photographer and he wanted to be a baseball player, and here we are, three years later, both working for the same team.
He's playing for the Red Sox while I'm the team photographer. We started dating when he got called up last year and it's been smooth sailing ever since. He's such a sweetheart to me, but everyone knows he's a sweetheart to me because I'm all he posts about on social media.
It was game seven of the world series against the New York Mets and I hate to say it, but they're such a good team and they're so hard to beat and I'm shocked that we've made it this far. We're home for the final game and the atmosphere couldn't get any more electric than it is right now.
I was sat in the far corner of the dugout by the steps so I could get real good pictures of the guys on the field. "Hey babe, I'm gonna hit a grand slam right here." Andrew said coming up to me before going on deck.
"Yeah and we're gonna get married soon." I said with a wink and he laughed and warmed up. Well now the bases were loaded and it was two outs and I was nervous, so I took all the pictures that I could and then the next thing I know, the ball made contact with his bat and it went soaring into the bullpen.
I couldn't believe that he just kept his word and hit a grand slam, in game seven of the world series nonetheless! "Maddie come out here!" He said into a microphone, wait when did he get that? "I'm sorry to interrupt the game right now, but I have something important to do." He said as I walked out to home plate.
"Maddie my love, I literally just told you I was going to hit a grand slam, and you said we're gonna get married soon." He said getting on one knee. "Well what you just said might come true, I love you with all my heart, ever since freshman year English, I knew you were the one for me. You're too sweet and kind not to pass up an opportunity to be with you for the rest of my life. So Maddie, will you be my wife?" He said.
I was crying because I didn't think that he was going to do this in front of all these people and in the middle of a baseball game! It's the world series, they came here to watch baseball, not a proposal! "Yes Andrew, I will marry you!" I said and he smiled and slipped the ring on my finger and the crowd went wild as he kissed me.
"I love you Andrew, you're crazy for doing that tough!" I said as we walked back to the dugout. "Yeah, but I would do anything for you princess, now take some good pictures." He said kissing me and walking off talking to his teammates.
I couldn't believe that I just got engaged in front of a sold out crowd at Fenway, what a surreal moment that I'm sure I'll never forget.
