                   H U M A N

Walking behind Alec and Santiago, I was able to listen to whatever they said. Not that I wouldn't have if I was walking further but– just for the matter of perfect speech.

It seemed as if Felix and Demitri caught up with Edward and his human mate earlier and there was another girl of our kind, I wondered who she was.

Apparently, at first Edward was against bringing the human into the castle– which was practical, I don't think Aro would let her live– but then Jane arrived and he had no choice. I have experienced her gift first hand, so I knew he couldn't do anything but to comply.

I was concerned, truly, but my curiosity overpowered my concern. A part of me wanted to meet the human, to see what was so special about her. The other part wanted them to escape from the cruel reality that they were gonna face in mere minutes of time. Unfortunately, the curious part of me won in the internal battle and I silently followed behind them towards wherever they were going.

We stood in front of a wooden door, the one which led to the main reception. I could hear a faint heartbeat and clumsy footsteps, and nothing else. I guess those belonged to that human, Bella. Then I heard Jane's voice greeting the receptionist.

I looked at Santiago and waited for what we had to do next. Only to see that he was looking at Alec, with his strong hands pointing at the wooden door. Then I glanced at Alec, who was also staring at me.

"Shall I go with you, Alec?" I whispered. To which he nodded and took my hand, while moving gracefully to open the door.

As we stepped into the room, bright light hugged my skin making it sparkle, contrasting wildly with the black cloak which I had draped over myself.

I could feel eyes burning holes into my head and looked towards where the glare was coming from. It was Gianna. I snarled at her and she quickly turned away. I didn't know what her problem with me was. I could have killed that filthy rat in just one second if Aro would have not adviced me against it. That thing actually wanted to be one of us. As if. I would never let that happen.

I felt Alec's hand leave my grip and turned towards the direction he standing, which was directly behind me.

"Jane" He said to his twin, kissed her cheek, and they embraced. That never happens. I wondered why they both were doing this. As if reading my thoughts, both of them looked towards me. Alec, winking and Jane, flashing a smile. So it was all for show.

"They send you for one and you come back with two... and a half," he noted, glancing at the girl standing next to Edward,
"Nice work."

I finally looked at her. Compared to the rest of us, she wasn't pretty, with dark circles lining her eyes. Her face was sunken, like she hadn't slept from many days. Her eyes and hair were plain brown.

All in all, I still didn't understand what made her special enough for Edward.

"Welcome back, Edward." I greeted him,"You seem in a better mood."

"Marginally" He said in a flat tone. His face was emotionless but I could swear I saw amusement flash in his eyes.

Alec chuckled, and examined the human, as she clung to Edward's side."And this is the cause of all trouble?" He asked, skeptical.

She sure smells appetizing...

Edward suddenly stiffened and looked at me with wide eyes. Like he couldn't believe I thought that. That was weird because it's not like I could stop thinking. It was his fault he could hear it.

"What? It was just a thought." I said to him. That human– Bella, glanced at me with fearful eyes. I knew she was scared. She should be, she was surrounded by people that could kill her any second.

"Aro will be so pleased to see you again." Alec said.

"Then let's not keep him waiting" Edward nodded.
