"Hold on a minute!" Hagrid yelled from inside. The three stopped and waited patiently for Hagrid to open the door.
When he opened it, he looked ahead. He craned his neck down and looked at the three of them.
"Looky who we have here." He smiled. He reached down and pet Ron and Harry on the head.
Both Ron and Harry walked past Hagrid and entered his hut. Hermione flew over his head and perched herself on a seat.
Hagrid closed the door and looked at them. "Sneaky animals you are." He said.
He watched as the three morphed into their normal selves.
"No way. You didn't." He said, looking at the three.
"Oh yes we did." Harry laughed. "We became animagus!"
"That's amazing! And you managed to do it without help. Your father would have been impressed." Hagrid wagged a finger to Harry.
"We even came up with code names. Very clever if I say so myself." Hermione told him.
"I'm Skipper, she's Beaky, and Harry's Fumus." Ron introduced their names.
"Why Fumus?" Hagrid asked Harry.
Harry turned into his fox form and then dissipated himself into a puff of black smoke. He flew around the room, leaving a trail of smoke behind him. He phased through object and then condensed multiple parts of himself, then turned to normal.
"Fumus is latin for smoke."
Hagrid smiled. "Brilliant! You know how powerful you are if your animagus is magical! You're some sort of smoke fox."
He seemed to have had a thought, and he turned to a large book he had on a shelf. It must have been a foot wide, and it looked ancient.
"You seem familiar." Hagrid told him. The three gathered around the table and looked at the pages.
Hagrid was flipping the pages, and soon he landed on the right page.
"Fox est fumo. Basically, it means fox with smoke in latin. In the old days, everything was named after what they looked like." He said. He pointed to the description.
"There was only one sighting, but the man recorded it, then passed it on for a couple centuries till it reached this book. It's basically a magical black wolf. People thought it looked so much like a fox, but they compared it to the Maned Wolf, and realized there was a similarity in appearance. As in the smoke fox looked exactly like an all black version of a Maned Wolf. The only difference being the color, eye color, and the ability to turn itself into smoke. So you're actually a wolf creature that somehow was bred with a fox one way or another, and then attained magical capabilities." Hagrid summed up shortly. The original description is a page long and in latin. But it seems only Hagrid was fluent in the language.
"So what you're saying is I'm a virtually undocumented magical creature, and no one has any idea what I am and what I do, or where I come from." Harry summed up.
"Basically so. Be grateful. The enemy will have no idea what you are if you ever stun them with your disappearing act." Hermione pointed out.
"Must be cool. I can just run and skip around." Ron told him.
"What are you going to do with your newfound capability?" Hagrid asked.
"I'm going to run around and hide the smoke ability part." Harry decided. "So I'll just be the stray Maned Wolf on campus. You can blame any animal deaths on me if you'd like." He joked.
"Well then I'm right with you." Ron agreed.
Hagrid laughed. "Just like your father and his friends. Always causing trouble."
