Chapter 10-How to train a Skrill

 You whirled around to see Dragon Hunters rounding up your friends, and Ryker and Dagur smirking at you and Hiccup. "I told you they'd come back for my Skrill!" He said, glancing at you. A flash of guilt emerging in his eyes before going back to normal. "How could you Hiccup, (y/n)~? We barely got a chance to be re-acquainted!" He rather gently pushed you away from the Skrill and rested a hand on the bars as the dragon roared at him, clearly wanting to rip the flesh from him. "Aww don't worry baby, You'll have a lot of time to get used to this!" He purred at the Skrill as a Dragon Hunter held your wrists behind your back. "Never mind that Dagur! Look at all the new dragons we have!" Ryker laughed as you began to be brought towards a cell, the Skrill still roaring in the background and clawing at its cage. "How could you (y/n)? After all you saw that happened with the Skrill and you try to steal it from me?" Dagur looked pretty hurt when he heard the words come from his own mouth. You felt a lot of guilt rush through you. "It's not your dragon Dagur! And if it stays here with the Dragon Hunters any longer it's going to get killed! I can't let that happen!" You shouted angrily. Dagur saw clearly what was going on here. 

"So..you thought it was a good idea to try and take the Skrill for your own after your other dragon was killed just so another pesky, yet also magnificent beast, can get in the way of us again?!" He shouted back at you as he regained his yandere mannerisms. "(y/n)!" Hiccup shouted at you, you looked at him before seeing him run towards the Skrill. You gasped and head butted the Dragon Hunter, using his body to launch yourself over Dagur quicker than he could react and completely legged it towards the Skrill's cage. You began pulling it onto the land before jumping out of the way as Toothless smashed into it with full force, knocking it over and allowing the Skrill to free itself. You grinned as it began attacking the Dragon Hunters with its lightning fire, the grin faded as it tried to fly away but its tail got caught in the cage. You clambered onto the cage as you heard Dagur shouting at you to get away from it and at Ryker to not hit you with the arrow. "Listen!!" You called at the Skrill, "If you want to get through this you have to trust me!! I saw the look you gave me on Berk!" It turned to you as you released its tail. "And I'm sorry for what we did! But we only did it to protect you! SO please!" You held out your hand and closed your eyes tightly. "Trust me!" 

You waited for a second before feeling a rough, scaly muzzle enter your palm. You gasped and looked up at the Skrill. Its pupils had finally fully dilated. "Do I remind you of someone..?" You asked quietly before being thrown onto the Skrill's back. "ok, Let's do this!!" You shouted, almost laughing at Ryker and Dagur's faces -Dagur looked completely love struck- before watching them back away as the Skrill began attacking the Dragon Hunter fleet and making them retreat. You glanced at Snotlout's dad and gasped as he shot an arrow at the Skrill, hitting it and making you fall with it. "Damn it dad!!" Snotlout shouted as he ran over. You got up quickly and checked to see if the Skrill was ok. "Hey, hey, sorry about him..he has some pride issues so he kind of did that to get you back for electrocuting him.." You laughed nervously as the Skrill glared at you slightly, then resting its head on the sand as the others scared off the remaining Dragon Hunters.

 You reached out slowly to touch the Skrill, hesitating when it looked at you, its pupils dilating and going into slits again as if trying to make its mind up whether to trust you. "I get it..after what happened all those years ago you don't know if you can trust me.." You sighed, retracting your hand a little "I wouldn't trust me either..not after what happened with Abscon.." You mumbled, tearing up a little. After everything you'd done to try and move on, you still found yourself weeping over the loss. The Skrill felt your emotions and knew what you were hinting at. You gasped when you saw it stand up and nudge its head closer to you, suddenly whipping around you when it saw the others approaching, Toothless and Stormfly growling at it. "Wait! They're friends!" You said, standing up and walking in front of the Skrill. "(y/n), are you sure about this?" Hiccup asked you as Fishlegs walked a little closer. "It looks like..you remind him of an old rider or friend.." He mumbled as your hand grew closer to the Skrill. Your breathing grew faster before hitching when the Skrill pushed its muzzle into your hand, and its pupils fully dilated. It began growling comfortably and you smiled warmly. "I know you've probably been alone out there all your life, and I know you don't like Toothless.." You said, motioning to the Nightfury, who gave a small huff and looked to the side. "I don't know whether you two were enemies before or something..but you can trust him and us now..you don't have to be alone out there anymore..I'm more than willing to be your rider if you're willing to be my dragon.." You gave a nervous smile to the Skrill after pulling your hand away. "She does know that it can't understand her ri-" Tuffnut's whispering was cut off by the Skrill nuzzling you gently. Just like Abscon did. "Never mind! Smart dragon!" Ruffnut laughed. You stroked the Skrill's head as tears poured out of your eyes. It gave a small dragonish chuckle an nuzzled your hair. You laughed and turned back to the others. "Shall we go?" You smiled, patting the Skrill's head. "Yeah!"
