Sat by the table, happily munching away on rice balls, Rei, purely uncoincedentally, came to a miraculous realisation.
I don't know how to play volleyball. Crumbs.
And it was this realisation that had her sprawled on her bed in front of her laptop, reasearching like an incredibly intense version of an Internet-savvy sloth. She typed the question, 'what is volleyball pls send help' into the search bar of her trusty friend Gooble (Aye no copyright up in this house). Clicking on a few links, she found an incredibly useful tutorial made by a fella with a very strong American accent.
Rei cupped her hands around her ears and curved them to amplify the sound, trying to decipher the man's words through his twanging accent. What the heck is a tosser? She was unbelievably confused, as in England that most definitely wasn't a volleyball position. She understood 'libero', and a certain small senpai immediately came to mind. It was the position reserved for the shortest players, it seemed, as they were closest to the ground.
She cackled out loud as she imagined Kags twirling and rolling around the back of the court, unable to even touch his toes as he tried his best to dive for the ball. Still chuckling, she hopped off the bed and pressed her hands flat against the floor with her legs straight, grinning at her victory over the imaginary inflexible Kags. She pulled out a notebook from the bedside drawer, scribbling down the names of positions on the court. As she did so, she realised that she only needed this basic knowledge to do what she was thinking with the team.
I'll do what I'm best at, she thought with a creepy smile. Personal trainer Rei, roll out! She rolled along the floor a few times for effect, before dramatically leaping to her feet. Sitting down on her bed delicately, reining herself in, she picked up the notebook once more. Brow furrowing, she thought through each player's position and the movements each required. Setter... she quickly wrote down 'review arms, calves, glutes...'. Continuing, she evaluated areas of strengths required for each position, and slowly but surely, she formulated a plan.
Karasuno will go far this season.

"REIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIII~!" Her head whipped up and she saw the iconic ginger and raven duo sprinting towards her once again, both screaming with their mouths wide open. Kageyama reached her a second before Hinata did, but both of them began shuffling around her in predatory circles with questions clearly on the tip of Hinata's tongue.
Right as Hinata opened his mouth to speak, Rei held up one finger to silence him. Pulling her phone out, she clicked on Pear Music and a song blasted out at top volume. Before the duo could even register what was happening, Rei had leapt high into the air, completely over the duo's arm blockade and down onto the ground behind them. Sprinting around to the back of the building at full pace, she quickly disappeared from the duo's view with MC Hammer's 'Can't touch this' echoing behind her.
The duo stared at the place where she vanished, then at each other, then back again. Hinata stuttered, "H-how high did she just jump?". The answer to that was very. Rei had surprised herself with the sheer height of the leap, and was silently congratulating herself on her ninja-ness. Dang, she thought, I feel cool. Cooler than Kanye in sunglasses and Yeezy's. Blimey, what a cool kid.
Before long she heard rapid footsteps behind her, and she guessed that the duo was catching up to her, fast. She skidded around the corner with a throaty 'yeet!' before lunging through the back entrance to the gymnasium. Sliding over to the store cupboard, she concealed herself amongst the balls. Heh, heh- But, alas, her immature thoughts were cut off as the doors to the cupboard swung open, and she mentally prepared herself for thorough questioning on yesterday's absence.
That was what she thought would happen, until she looked up and saw Suga staring down at her in confusion.
"Please, don't ask any questions. I don't know why I'm here either," she said, trying not to let on that she was hiding from a certain ginger and raven-haired twit, "and yes, I would love to help set up. Hi, by the way." Suga merely raised an eyebrow and smiled, deciding to ignore her questionable placement amongst the supplies.
"Alright, Rei, but do get away from the balls. We don't want them to get squished." Mentally howling with laughter, Rei struggled to sit up and get out of the container.
"By the way, there's something I'd like to talk to you and Daichi-san about in a bit, is that okay?" Ah, good one Rei, ask if you can talk to them, cleeeeever. Like they would say no.
"No, Rei, you're not allowed to talk to either of us, especially not the captain of the team you're helping with." Well, there's a first time for everything, I guess. Something must have shown on her face, because Suga laughed and waved his hand. "I'm joking, it's fine!" Rei breathed a sigh of relief. My master plan could have been rejected!
She edged out of the cupboard, holding a net, before her eyes landed on the people standing inside the gym. Half of the team had arrived, and the duo was staring at her oddly. Luckily, Tsukishima wasn't there yet. She let out a nervous chuckle.
"Hi, guys!" Only a couple waved back at her, including a brown-haired boy with lots of freckles. Thank you, gigantic teddy bear and freckled boy. Apart from those awesome two, no one else waved back. They were probably wondering why she hadn't turned up yesterday.
"S-sorry I didn't show up yesterday. I had some f-family issues." They didn't seem wholly satisfied, but it was enough. Their attention turned away from her, and she mentally cheered. Yes! People avoided!
Setting up the net took her attention away, so she almost screeched when she felt a tap on her shoulder.
"Suga said you wanted to talk to us?" Turning around and looking up, she saw the face of the team captain.
"Ah! Yes, yes I did! I had some, uh... ideas about what I could do to help the team this season. You know, given that I don't know much about the game itself. Ha." She awkwardly shifted on her feet, but Daichi smiled down at her.
"Sure, whatever will make you useful!"
Ouch.
"Okay, well, seeing as I'm quite... athletically inclined, I was wondering if I could be a sort of fitness trainer for the team? Like, work out specific exercises and routines to amplify the muscles and strength they need to play well, and stuff like that?" Daichi looked thoughtful for a second, before replying slowly.
"I suppose that could be a good idea, given that all they do is sprint and jog these days. I can arrange for you to talk to them individually throughout the session, if you want? Just make sure that you run all the ideas through me, just in case anything is off." Rei nodded, and Daichi gave her a small smile before jogging off to where the rest of the team had finally gathered.
Her eyes immediately spotted a curly mess of blond hair, and she began to scowl. Tsukishima felt her stare burning into him and he looked up, making eye contact. He smirked, but also had questioning in his eyes. I know I'm irritating, I do it on purpose after all. But she barely talked to me, so why does she hate me so much already? That's hardly fair. Though, I must admit, Tsushitshima was a good one. His smirk widened with this last thought, and her glare intensified.
Boy, you better stop smirking or you'll catch these hands!
Stuffing a banana she found in her bag into her mouth, she turned away and finished tying the net.
Tsukishiyomama.
