Time for Change

Shelby and Tyler look at the mass of people before them. Shelby smiles in shock, many she hasn't even met. Her older cousins and their spouses and children and in some cases even their kids spouses and kids.

The family is extensive and lives all over the states, and as far as Shelby knows some might even live overseas.

"I haven't even met some of them Tyler," Shelby whispers to him and nervously wrings her hands.

"Well, there's no better time than the present, is there? I will have them presented to me and therefor you as well."

Shelby smiles and moves more confidently into the room. "Welcome, to my new home. As you may or may not be aware there is a threat against the elves from various factions. One of those factions is a Senator from Utah." There is widespread muttering at that. Many of her relatives still call Utah home, although most prefer the southern heat to the northern cool. "He has illegally detained some of the high lords while they were visiting."

Now the murmuring is growing. That is bold and dangerous move. "That almost cost the elves their lives. He wants me or rather wants to meet with me. He has stated that Tyler kidnapped me and forced me to marry him." Shelby snickers at this. So do those that know her best or know the whole story.

"Many of you have grievances against the elves. Tyler is aware of that." Shelby gives an amused smile now. "The elves are learning some manners and it's not the easiest thing in the world for them to learn. But like all unruly children they will learn the lesson."

Shelby turns to Tyler and gives him an affectionate kiss on the cheek. "Some learn it quicker and some learn it slower." She turns her attention away from Tyler and his amused look back to her relatives.

"They aren't all as bad as the ones we hear about or meet. Many here are well behaved. But then the lower classes generally are." Shelby words are greeted with snickers and laughter.

"While you are here, as guests you are expected to show civility even if you hate the elves. Those elves that are chosen to help you and serve you have been so due to their having learned their lessons. You are to let us know if they are rude and we will deal with it.

"But I'm more worried about your behavior between family members. No fighting will be tolerated. If there is someone you cannot stand, stay away from them. The quarters and rooms prepared for your use are spacious. There is no need to be around those that irritate or intentionally start problems." Shelby finishes and Tyler takes over.

"There will be tutors for the children so they will not fall behind on their school work. Those that have assignments due in their classes on earth will have those assignments turned in for them. You will in no way be penalized for being here.

"There are also recreation rooms. Games, movies and other time wasters will be provided. Tours about Elvenhome, horseback riding and other out door games can be arranged for those with an interest. There are also swimming pools available. Appropriate clothing will be provided. Although Shelby has informed me that some of our ideas of appropriate don't match up to hers. There will be a selection made available.

"There is just one last thing, I will tolerate no rude or nasty comments about myself or my wife. Her sister has already been kicked out once. Since that would leave you to the mercy of the Senator Hughs," Tyler is appreciative of the silence that announcement brings, "you will instead be held in my cells." Tyler smiles not very nicely. "Although they aren't the same as the dungeons of your dark ages, they are less than the comfort of your current rooms.

"You may have noticed that some members are not with us. The military personnel were not allowed to come, I am however currently working on getting them here. State is helping on that as well.
