"(y/n), honey, we ran out of Advil. Can you run down to the drugstore and get some more?" your mom asked, pulling your attention out of the book you were reading. You looked up, nodding, before slipping on your shoes and slipping out the door. Your mom was always sending you on errands, saying she was 'busy'. You knew she just wanted you out of the house. For what, you didn't know, and quite frankly you didn't really care.

You made it to the drugstore relatively quickly with the use of your bike. Chaining it up in the alley beside the door, you entered the nearly abandoned shop, shivering at the chilly air. Sauntering through the aisles, you discreetly shoved some Twix bars down your bra before grabbing the Advil, and heading up to the counter.

Behind the counter seemed pretty vacant, but in front of the counter stood a boy that looked about your age. He was fiddling with something in his hands, facing away from you. You could tell from the telltale two fanny packs fastened around his waist, that this boy was none other than Eddie Kaspbrak. You knew of him, but you had never really talked to him. He seemed nice enough, and you liked his friends plenty, so you assumed you would like him to.

Walking up to the counter, you rested your elbows on the cool surface, facing Eddie.

"Hey, you're Eddie Kaspbrak, right?" you asked, and Eddie jumped five feet in the air, clutching his chest dramatically as he turned to look at you.

"UH, y-yeah. Wait, you're (y/n) (y/l/n), right? We have english together,"Eddie said, cracking a smile. You nodded, and that was when you noticed the cast on his arm. You frowned, noticing it bore only one word, 'LOSER' written over nearly half of the thing.

"Hey, what happened to your arm?" you asked, pointing at the cast. Eddie looked down at his arm, grimacing, before looking back to you.

"Uh, actually, I fell in a weird way and broke my arm pretty badly," Eddie explained, showing his arm gingerly to you.

"Oh, no, I meant why does your cast only say Loser? Why haven't your friends signed it or anything?" you asked, only slightly regretting the way you worded it, in case it came off a little insensitive.

"O-oh. Uh, Gretta Bowie wrote this. I didn't think any of my friends would wanna sign it, anyway. It's stupid," he shrugged, a blush splotching his cheeks.

"Well, can I sign it?" you asked, and Eddie looked at you, wide-eyed, before nodding quickly. You picked up a marker that was on a shelf next to the counter, uncapping it with your teeth, before gently taking his casted arm in your hands.

You wrote quickly, smiling as you did, and Eddie couldn't help but grimace, thinking you were going to write something along the line of what Gretta Bowie wrote. Quickly capping the marker, you looked up at the boy in front of you.

"Hope to see you around, Eddie," you smiled, before slapping down some money on the counter for the advil, and leaving. Eddie watched you go until you were out the door, before looking down at his arm.

A large, red 'V' was written over the 's' in Loser, with a little heart and your name signed on the bottom. Eddie grinned, feeling his cheeks heat up. Eddie guessed having this cast on his arm wouldn't be so bad, now.
