We passed the morning searching for a job but sadly we didn't have luck. "We can search for something in the nearby cities but the nearest one is two hours from here..." Said Vi sighing. We were both in the study, I was searching from the computer of the family and Vi was using her laptop.

I didn't respond. I wasn't even paying attention. My head was obviously somewhere else.

"Still angry?" She asked trying to understand my overly serious expression. "Yeah well, obviously you are. Your best friend disappears at night and she doesn't even tell you anything." She said scratching her arm. "I-" She began to explain but I put my hand in front of her mouth. "It's alright. I have my secrets too after all, right?" I said. I actually didn't mean that. I just didn't want to know what else is she doing that's going to ruin her perfect self further.

She seemed perplexed. She probably wanted to tell me anyway but she refrained herself for some reason.

"By the way, my parents told me you are dead...?" She changed topic. "Yeah... The police found out where we lived and... Yeah." I said awkwardly. "Is the police going to ask me questions? What should I tell them?" She asked me. "I don't know and just tell them you went out at night and when you returned I was already away." I said stretching out. "I'm sure someone can confirm your version..." I looked at her in the eyes. "S-so, you kinda knew?" She asked getting shy again.

She's just a cute girl and she wants to have fun like the others... I guess that this is just normal.

"Listen, promise me you won't get sad about it..." She said carefully. I was already getting impatient, what now!?

"One of the guys found work for me too. But nothing strange, of course. I could work as a bartender." She said. I let 'one of the guys' slip away. "Okay." I didn't really know what else to respond. If it's a safe job, I could only be happy for her.

"I'm going out." I said turning off the computer. "Can I come?" She asked turning off her pc too. "No I... I want to be alone." I said still walking.

I went outside and I hopped in the car, ghosts of the past hunting me. Every single bad day flashing before my eyes. And it was even just one quarter of my whole life, compared to the rest I had to live throught, it was just nothing.

But it was still hunting me. Gosh it even happened years and years ago. I shouldn't even be able to remember those things.

I started to try to turn on the car but strangely enough today it took more time. At the 25th time I got out and I closed violently the door, kicking it after.

I went randomly in the woods and somehow I managed to calm down a little. I always liked nature but most of all forests. The air smelled like musk and wet grass. The sky was still gray and there weren't any birds.

I continued to walk straight ahead, not giving a shit if I was gonna get lost. I guess I was just done.

I suddenly stop and sat on the same spot. Just some seconds after it started to rain. I actually liked to feel rain so I didn't even try to put my hat on.

Someone hovered over me and made the rain stop hitting me. I looked up and I just saw Vittoria with her cute umbrella.

She silently sat beside me.

I softly rested my head on her skinny shoulder, it made me think how big I am compared to her.

"You don't like moving, do you?" She asked softly. "Actually..." I took the courage to tell her something personal. "I lived in this city when I was young."

I didn't know if she knew about my past. I don't remember if I told her about it or if she forgot it.

But that's not really important. The important part is that I'm still her only best friend ever.

When I just moved away. (Jeff x reader)Where stories live. Discover now
