grayson dolan

"what? you're joking, right?" i choked out.

a tear spilled from the corner of her eye as she delicately shook her head and closed her eyes.

"i should've told you earlier, i'm sorry." she whispered and burst out into tears, pressing her palms against her face, tiny mumbles then escaping her lips.

it felt like my whole world that i had built in this short time, collapsed in front of my eyes. the walls that i held so high, weren't there anymore. i couldn't even cry, i was in complete shock.

"please, grayson, i'm so sorry.." she whimpered and took my hand in hers. "say something."

"may.."

"you need to promise me something." she squeezed my hand and looked at me.

"anything." i said and squeezed her hand as well.

"you need to promise me, that when i'm gone, you will continue life without depression, and be happy. that's all i'm asking, please, grayson promise me." she wiped her tears away and cleared her throat so that she wouldn't sound weak.

"how can i?" i asked and she took a deep breath.

"like i continued my life when my mom left me." she answered quickly, but sternly.

"i promise." i said, and a smile spread across her face. she pulled me close to her and planted a kiss on my cheek before hugging me tightly.

when we pulled away, she was smiling and looked in the mirror quickly before stepping out of the bathroom. the heels of her shoes clattered against the wooden steps as she made her way downstairs and apologized for her behavior before sitting down and taking a sip of her water.

i quickly walked downstairs as well and sat next to may, looking at ethan who nodded at me, implying he talked to mom.

when everyone was finished with the dinner, we moved the conversation to the living room.

i saw may getting more comfortable with ghe scenario that she was in; a room filled with strangers who tried to casually talk to you probably wasn't her ideal afternoon, but she accepted it and peeked interest in sudden conversations, laughed at cameron's bad jokes and casually answered to some leukemia-related questions without flinching in fear.

when the clock was showing that it was past midnight, the guests started to slowly disappear one by one to the darkness of the night.

when may stood up and walked over to her purse and coat, i stood up and ran after her.

"may, can you stay the night here? it's really dark outside and i don't want anything bad happening to you."

she smiled and picked up her purse. "sure, let me just call emma." she typed something on her phone, then dissapeared behind a corner.

my eyes locked with ethan and he playfully lifted his eyebrows and smirked. i rolled my eyes and flipped him the finger before may got back to the living room.

"she agreed, but i have nothing to wear." she said and slipped her phone back to her purse.

"you can borrow my clothes." i said and she nodded. "i'll go and make your bed." i quickly added and ran upstairs, to my room.
