Once done in the shower I blowdried my hair and got my shirt and pants on.
"Need the tie expert again, Hansen?" Jared called. He must have heard me muttering under my breath trying to get it done up.
" You look great Evan." Jared said, tears filling his eyes. "WHAT ARE YOU DOING TO ME! I AM A COLD SHELL I TELL YOU! " he laughs and wipes his tears away. "You really do look great though. Navy blue really is a good colour for you." I look down at my navy blue jacket, black pants and grey bowtie. I feel really really great today
I pull him into a huge hug. "Thanks for being my best man" he shrugged and says "who else would you ask. I'm literally your best option here bro."
We go back down to the kitchen where I grabbed my vows, and finish off my 2nd beer. "Beer is disgusting how did you ever get me started on drinking this." I sigh as I take another sip.
My mom comes out of her room, dressed beautiful. "Wow Mom! I mean, I know I was there with you when you picked the dress, but wow."
"I can agree, Heidi, it's very stunning." Joseph walked from the living room door frame to join us all in the kitchen and kiss her. He was wearing a really nice dress shirt that matched my mom's.
"Alana text me and everything is set up and perfect and ready to go. We have about 30 minutes until the ceremony starts, and it's only a 5 minute drive to the venue. So Joe and I are going to head over there now. Greet people and make sure everything is perfect, give Alana a bit of a break. I love you kiddo. I'm so proud of you." My mom started to cry and kiss my head. She straighten out my tie and headed out the door.
The next 15 minutes, Jared and I went over my vows and I made him cry again. He was really emotional about weddings apparently.
We got into the car and Jared started listing things off like he was my mother. "You have everything? The ring? Your vows? Water? Jackets on nice. Okay let's get the show on the road." We drove the 5 minutes to the little park where we were having our wedding. Connor had insisted on us having our wedding here.
May 28th. The best day of my life. I always loved the weather at the end of May. It wasn't too hot, and there was a really beautiful breeze. Jared pulls around to the back of the venue and gives me one final pep talk before we get out of the car.
" Evan. I love you with my whole heart. Always have. You're the best loser brother a guy could have ever asked for. You're marrying one of our best friends. And I couldn't be prouder of you. This feels so gross and mushy but I got to push through this!" He laughs and more tears start coming. "You've grown so much as a person and it's just really really nice to see someone who brings out the best in you. FUCK I AM SO EMOTIONAL TODAY!" He screamed the end. I laugh and hand him a tissue.
"I love you Evan, now let's get going." We get out of the car, and see that all of our guests are here. I smile and see the 30ish people sitting in the chairs we had out. It was small, and everything truly was special. Zoe was down at the end of the aisle with Connor and Michael. Alana and Jared were walking down and standing with me on my side.
My mom already was crying when she came down to stand with me. Connor saw me and smiled brighter than he was before.
Alana and Jared were technically doing a couple jobs. They were also my flower girls. Jared insisted that he wanted to throw the pedals down. Connor and I just couldn't pass up the opportunity.
My mom wrapped her arm around mine. "Are you ready sweetheart?" She asked me. I nod my head and reply "I've never been so ready to do anything in my whole life."
I stared at Connor and I felt like my whole mouth was wide open. His hair hung loosely at his shoulders and he was wearing a medium shade of grey suit jacket and black pants like mine, with a blue tie. He looked absolutely perfect.
The music started and it was an instrumental version of sun and moon from Miss Saigon. Everything was going so well.
I start to walk down the aisle and I trip. Of course I couldn't go one day with everything being perfect. I hear Connor snicker at the end of the aisle and I look up and stick my tongue out at him. I get to the end and kiss my mom softly on the cheek and stand beside Connor.
"Nice one Hansen." He said through a huge grin. "I was just falling for you Murphy." I said back. He was already tearing up, and I haven't really seen him cry a whole lot so seeing him like this was really sweet.
The ceremony was going by short and sweet. We got to our vows and Connor slid my ring onto my finger. It was a really stunning silver band with 2 gems in it.
" Evan Hansen, you complete me. You're my tree roots, keeping me grounded to this world when I get too into my own head. You're everything I could have ever dreamed of. Our story started at school, but it would have been gross to get married at high school." There was a lot of laughs in the audience. "I decided on this park because this is where you saved my life. This is where I think our story really starts. I've never known anyone who shows as much compassion and love as you do. I don't want to walk by here and only think of bad memories. I can walk here now and think of this being where 2 of our chapters start together. I love you my Tree boy."
I would be lying if I didn't say I was crying. I was crying a lot and smiling so wide. I turned and grabbed my ring from Jared and slid it onto Connors finger.
Dear Connor Murphy,
Thank you for showing me what love was. Not only your love, but what it feels like to learn to love myself. You were able to help me through some of the hardest moments of my life and I couldn't have imagined anyone else by my side. Thank you for always believing in me and what I want to do with my life. Thank you for your crazy flavour picking at A la mode. Thank you for always being able to make me laugh and smile. Thank you for making me feel safe and important. I love you so much.
Sincerely, me." I was crying and so was Connor. I could see Zoe just passed Connors shoulder and she was a literal crying mess. Michael handed her a ton of tissues, and I turn and see Alana do the same for Jared."I now pronounce you married. You may now kiss your husband." Connor grabbed me and whispered "Finally" before taking me in for a long kiss.
I leaned more into the kiss and heard our friend and family applauding. I've never been so happy in my entire life. 2 friends on a perfect day.
The end
