Learning how to be human again

     It's official, Ben never runs out of energy. He skipped all the way there, ran around inside, and is now running in circles as to not leave me behind, as he shouts about how much fun he had. The neighbors have been glancing out to us but I refuse to acknowledge them. I have too much on my mind.

I'm thinking about how to explain my new job to dad, and that I can't quit until I have worked there for a week. What will he say? Will he approve? Only one way to find out... I can do this! ..........

We went inside and dad was there at the dining room table with his laptop. Working and eating at the same time. It's now or never. Deep breaths.

"Hey...dad" I said. Pausing I considered the best way to say this.

"Yes child?" Dad said not looking up. Although I said it in a way that didn't sound like I needed something he still knew something was up. How to tell him is the problem.

"So today....."
"yes?"
"We went to circus baby's....."
"I know"
"And..."
"Uh Huh?"
"We had fun..."
"That's good"
"And..."
"Yes??"
"I got a...."
"..." dad looked up at me waiting for my answer.

"..."
"Job....?"
"That's nice honey" he said going back to his work. "Wait...What?" He said abruptly standing. "You got a job?!?"
"Yes?"
"Where?"
"A construction site dad. Where do you think?"
"What?"
"I'm a night guard at circus baby's"
"No"
"I hardly sleep anyway"
"No. Just no"
"Dad I can't quit company policy"
"Why didn't you tell me first then?"
"Trust me if I could I would"
"You're to young for a job"
"I'm 16. This is usually when most people get jobs"
"What about Ben?"
"I get off at 6. I'll be back in time to help him get ready for school"
"What about your school?
"That won't be a problem"
" when will you sleep"
"School is a snooze fest that's way it's not a problem"
"Why didn't you tell me?"
"I'm telling you right now?"
"Before you got the job?"
"It happened so fast. I said I was interested and a guy came out of nowhere and said 'really? You got the job!' Quite literally"
"*sigh* ok. As long as it doesn't ruin your normal schedule"
"It won't I promise"
After that dad left and went to bed, Ben who was listening the whole time let me have some of him popcorn. This kid. And we also went to bed. Getting used to my new schedule should be easy I hardy sleep anyway. It was 8 so I minis we'll try to sleep. And for the first time in forever, I fell asleep rather quickly.
