"I used to be a Jedi...I used to swear by the Order and the Republic to protect the galaxy in the name of peace...but now..."
(Y/N) paused to take another drink, and then looked up at the clearly disinterested bartender once again. He was making it clear with the bored look in his eyes that he didn't care, however continued his "listening" in hopes that (Y/N) would keep pausing to drink, run dry, and then buy another.
(Y/N) knew it wasn't the smartest thing to do to tell a bartender in the underworld on Coruscant about her delicate situation, and she was grateful that she was able to use the excuse that she wasn't exactly sober. Besides, the war that had mercilessly dragged the entire galaxy into the business of the Jedi had started months ago, so there wasn't much that the public- especially those who resided on Coruscant- didn't already know.
It disgusted her, really, that even those whose only wish was to remain neutral were now thrust into a political galactic conflict. It was the very same clone war that had brought her to resolve to abandon the Order; she could never bring herself to force innocents to fight for the sake of the Republic which she had once served and sworn by. She had fought before, yes, but never in such a bloody war that was tearing apart the galaxy planet by planet. Despite what she had been assured of, she was certain that the Republic shared an equal amount of blame with the Separatists for bringing about the end of peace. It was the fact that she was instructed to follow the orders of the corrupted senate without question that finally broke her.
(Y/N), in her reminiscing, had not taken note of the fact that the countless shot glasses that surrounded her didn't even contain a drop of alcohol. It startled her when the bartender suddenly huffed and said, "Look, lady, we're closing to the public for my brother's boss to come and party or something. Do you want anything else or not?"
(Y/N) just sighed and placed her head in her hands. The bartender rolled his eyes and walked away, leaving (Y/N) to her own antagonizing thoughts.
The fact that she was no longer with the only people she had ever known made her numb. Was any of this- the war, her abandonment of the Order- real? Was she just imagining that she had given up the security of having a pre-arranged life and that a raging war was going on all around her? She felt hopelessly trapped.
She didn't notice when the door behind her suddenly slid open; it wouldn't have gotten her attention at all if she didn't sense something. She hadn't ever sensed it before, and so she began searching her mind, desperately grasping for the feeling that was emitting from the new arrival. If only she could identify the emotion...in spite of all of the times her former master had told her that a still, quiet area was the best place to allow the force to flow through her, the ominous silence of the other customers wasn't helping.
"We're here early!" a man's voice announced excitedly. (Y/N) groaned, knowing that it would be best if she left while she still could, as she had a knack for finding herself in trouble. In spite of herself, she stubbornly remained in her seat.
The bartender reappeared. Looking out among his current crowd of customers, he called loudly, "Alright, everybody scram!" As people began making their way out of the bar, (Y/N) could sense their unease. Whoever had just arrived was clearly frightening them, and the former Jedi knew that that really should have been the only hint that she needed to get up and go. Resilient as ever, (Y/N) refused to stand. Even as the music started up again and the new arrivals began to engage in the typical rowdy behavior associated with the bar, she was idle.
