"What would you say to him?"

(Y/N) looked up, peering at Mikeve from across the small outdoor table with a look of confusion on her features. The brightness brought on by the Saleucami sunrise forced (Y/N) to squint as she occasionally scanned the surrounding garden that adorned Mikeve's backyard, listening for the laughter of children to reassure her of their safety. She smiled as she heard one of the girls giggling delightedly as she played hide-and-seek with the other. (Y/N)'s eleven year-old daughter, Alaydia, was the light of her life; seeing her happiness in all its forms was enough for (Y/N) to feel joy in her own heart. She felt very fortunate that Mikeve's fully-human daughter, Evelari, was willing to befriend Alaydia, as most children were very taken aback by the stubby horns that protruded from her forehead and in front of her ears. She turned her gaze back to her friend and saw that she too was beaming in the direction of their daughters. It took several moments for (Y/N) to remember their prior conversation.

"What do you mean, Mikeve?" she said finally.

Mikeve's  jubilant face was suddenly clouded by a very solemn look as she silently debated whether or not to continue her line of questioning. From what the middle-aged human had seen, (Y/N) (L/N) was not a woman who spoke much of her past. Of course, now that she had blurted out the start of the inquiry that she had held back for so long, she figured that it only could've been fate; meaning that she was destined to finish.

Mikeve breathed deeply, bracing herself for (Y/N)'s reaction, and said, "...I mean, if he came back? What would you say to him?"

(Y/N) sighed and placed her head in her hands. It wasn't as if she hadn't thought of what she would say before- she had thought of many words that she would give him if it turned out that the news she had received of his death was false; it was the simple fact that she had never spoken in detail when it came to who he was and what he had done. Not even her most trusted friend that she had made during her time on Saleucami, Mikeve, knew to the full extent why (Y/N) was the only single mother living in their small farming community. The fact that she had just shown up in the dead of the night carrying a small bundle nearly a decade previously had shrouded her in mystery, and the townsfolk had, for a brief time, been completely enamored with the rumors that they spread about where she came from. Some said that she was a disgraced monarch's daughter who was forced into exile upon discovering that the father of her child was a commoner; some said that she had been involved in some sort of criminal ring, and that the new life that she had created had prompted her to abandon her ways for a quieter lifestyle; some even ventured to assume that she had been a Jedi who had been expelled from the Order, as attachments were forbidden.

The last bit of gossip was not far from the truth.

While she wasn't a Jedi, her force-sensitivity had not gone unnoticed; her father, a true Jedi who had been forced away from the Order by his masters due to his emotional bond with (Y/N)'s mother, had done everything in his power to prevent the Jedi from finding her. He had even gone so far as to train her to use the force himself, telling her that allowing emotions to flow through her heart would only strengthen it and bring her closer to the all of the living creation within the galaxy. Once he had deemed her ready, he decided that it was necessary to expose her to the force in a way that was significantly beyond all that she had felt in her lifetime;

"My intention is to teach you how to recognize the dark side and to defend yourself against it. I understand that using it will be tempting, but you must promise me that you will never allow yourself to get involved with the ones who call themselves the Sith,"  Tridash (L/N) had told her as they landed on the planet's surface. Before they had even entered the atmosphere, (Y/N) had been able to sense how strong the darkness that surrounded the planet was. It was an odd sensation, as her whole life she had only been able to sense components of the light side from her father. Malachor was her first subjection to the dark side, and the sudden submersion in the deep cloud made her feel as though she was drowning.
