"so, what do we do in general?" josh asked, castiel looked at him in a blue gaze, looking back to seth, whose eyes were still the colors of peaches, all puffy. she sighed, knowing she'd have to figure out where to go soon enough.
"we follow tyler around until he dies. he can see us." seth said, castiel looked over and glared in a red and blue fashion, josh's tired, sickly emotions lit up with a fire full of salmon pink clouds. love is what they called it.
"wait, so he can see me? that's not bad at all!" josh said, as if her were younger in a toy store. castiel looked and sighed at her partner in crime, when she was really the only one who did the crimes out of the pair of them.
"j-josh. he can only see me and seth. he can't see you." she said quietly. josh's mocha eyes dropped to a milk chocolate, tired once more. he looked down to the asphalt below his sneakers, his longer curls fell in front of his face, his brown roots starting to show. the feathery wings on his back falling forward, the two original dead heard a sniffle. seth went over to him, wrapping his fragile arms around the boy her protected his whole life.
josh started to cry in seth's arms. castiel looked up to the sky, unfazed by sorrow at this point. today had been a quiet, crimson day. no lion, because the lion doesn't laugh at death. the lion only laughed at torchere and trauma. never death; because it meant someone joined the side of afterlife. not his, which he lived in alone, with gritting cubs, that wouldn't be able to escape their fate for infinity. long after the universe dies.
"josh, i'm sorry." seth whispered, josh just kept crying. castiel looked around, wondering what tyler would be doing. wondering how much of a wreck he was. wondering how much the black and blue was suffocating him in the ambulance, where the acceptance of josh's death was yet to be held on too.
"why only you two t-though?" he asked, his voice completely melted.
"because we protected the both of you, but we were individually assigned to one of you. so if one of you died, you can't see the other if they're not dead yet, since death is inevitable.. of course. so if seth was alive like tyler, i wouldn't be able to see him and vise versa. and don't wish death upon your boyfriend, that's the reason why there aren't a lot of us." castiel snapped, josh gulped, seth putting an arm around the boy he protected. captain america's shield couldn't save them from the bullets that mourning sent their way. it's not only the alive that have to let go of something, and they all knew that.
"you're consciously wanting it, but not the specific thing. don't think on it or act on it rather, or you won't see him again." castiel said, josh nodded, not daring to touch his thoughts in the moment that he was standing in, seth's wings mounted on his back, castiel's explanations being replayed in his head. he had just played a game of space oddity with tyler; and they were right. major tom is a junkie.
"i-i'm awful." josh said, seth looked up to castiel, who looked at josh with a green but orange prerplection on her face. confused. with some purple in there of course. it wasn't expected. just like any of this on the first place. but of course it was: it was inevitable.
"no you're not josh, it's natural instinct to wish it when love is felt. there's nothing to be ashamed of." castiel said professionally, as if she knew what to say. that was one of the things seth loved about her, that she could calm someone down as fast as she could probably kill someone, and she could keep a straight face either way.
