Chapter Four: Flustered

YOU

"This man's name was Gunpei Ikari." Hank says as he gestures over a tomb with a kanata pierced in front of it. "If you take away the uniforms, the war... he became brother. We swore we'd never leave each other behind." Hank explained, trying not to tear up. "Let's get off this island." He added, looking at Conrad and Mason.

Right as I woke up, everyone, including my dad, started working on the plane-boat... well, ploat as Slivko likes to call it. When it started working, everyone gave laughters of joy, seeing as their hard work finally paid off.

The Iwis started looking at us, causing us to look back at them in silence. Just then, my father called for me to got to him just behind a tent. "What's up Dad?" I asked, scratching my head. He gave a long sigh before placing a hand on my arm.

Before he could say anything, I decided to cut him off the slack and tell him everything he wanted to tell me. "If you have feelings for Mason, it's fine for me. You two would be a great couple." His eyes widened and his mouth fell agape.

"I-I was just about to tell you to be safe in the flight. I-I never h-had any plans for Mason." I chuckled at his failed attempt of denial. "You're stuttering dad. You're in love. You'll notice it soon. In the meantime, let's go back to the ploat shall we?"

He gave me a nod and placed an arm around me as we returned. Hank started the ploat when he noticed me and my dad aboard. The village barrier opened slowly, just enough to let us through. We left the village in silence. Awaiting the adventures that skull island has in store for us.

Along the way, Hank started telling the story about his wife and son. I smiled seeing the happiness sparkle in his eyes everytime he mentions anything about his son.

"Yeah, he definitely thinks your dead, man." Sliveko bluntly said. "Hey!" Conrad looked up and scolded him. Slivko just shrugged.

"I'm just sayin'."

"You don't know that. You'd be surprised by how long people wait." Conrad said. "Nah. Truth is, I don't expect them to be waitin'. I'd be fine either way. I just want one last chance to see 'em. That'd be good enough for me." Hank replies.

"Scott's the only one you have left?" Conrad asked me, still looking forward. "Yeah. I don't know what I would do if something bad happens to him." Conrad gave me a smile and held my hand while the other was still on the wheel.

"Nothing will happen to anyone. We will all return safely. I promise." He caressed my hand making my heart flutter. I looked away to hide my flustered face and gave a small nod.

"You're adorable." He muttered, not knowing that I can hear him clearly. "Thank you." He looked shocked for a second before clearing his throat and giving me a smile. A tint of red in his cheeks.

"Yeah. Ugm.. Uh... You're welcome. I- uh.. Yeah. You- You're welcome." Mason laughed as she heard Conrad stuttering. "[Y/n]'s got Conrad smitten!" Mason exclaimed, taking everyone's attention.

Everyone laughed, except for my dad who looked like he was about to kill Conrad in any second. "Jeez, calm down Scott. Let them be. Your daughter is an independent woman now." I hear Mason whisper to my dad.

"Yeah. Independent. A woman  who still sleeps with her mouth wide open, saliva sticking out and muttering 'My dwad is a superwo. You should meet hem. Hwe's weally hwot' in her sleep." He said, 'imitating' my voice.

Mason let out a laugh once again as she looked at me. Conrad also gave a slight chuckle. Great dad. What a good way to embarrass your own daughter in front of a very handsome man. "Don't worry. You're still adorable." Conrad whispers, winking at me. My body was about to give up but I got interrupted by a sound.

The radio started working all of a sudden and someone started speaking. When Slivko told them to send a flare, just behind the mountains, a flare shot up making us all smile.

"Yes!" Mason grinned. I gasped in surprise and in hope. We're really getting off this island for real. Conrad suddenly pulled me into his tight embrace, catching me off guard and almost causing me to release a yelp.

To be honest, I don't know what  happened afterwards. One second we were all happy, the next, Victor was taken by a bird, which are called the Phsycovultures, lifting him in the air and started tearing him apart. "Get down!" Conrad yelled, letting me go and rasing his gun high.

Slivko was taken away. There's nothing anyone could do. I stood there frozen. I have no idea what to do, or how to react. I just... stared at the empty sky. "What the hell man?" Slivko asked, clearly frightened.

"He's gone. Everybody grab your gear. We have to keep moving." Conrad said as if nothing happened while everyone continued to stare at the sky where Victor was taken. "We'll go ashore and meet up with Packard." He added.

"No. Wait a minute. Wait a minute! Is nobody gonna say anything about the b—" Houston said, panicking. I still stood still, as if I just saw a skull crwler eat my father whole.

"He's gone and he ain't comin' back there's nothing to say." Hank says, walking back inside the ploat, standing beside me and asking, "You okay?" I nodded, even though I know that I am not, and I won't be anytime soon.

He walked away leaving me to clear up my mind. We proceeded in silence until we arrived on land. We waited in the forest near a river. My dad and Mason sitting on huge rocks, dad's jacket—which he had when we first entered... escuse me... crashed on the island— wrapped around Mason tightly.

"They should be here soon." Conrad said, walking towards me then sitting beside me. "Unless they were eaten by something that's bigger than us." Mason muttered. Conrad just dismissed what she said and placed an arm around me for body heat.

"Are you alright?" I looked at him as if he asked me to kiss a goat. "I seriously do not know how to answer that right now." He just sighed and pulled me to his chest, kissing my forehead.

"We will be fine. I promise. I'm sorry that I didn't do anything to save him. I could've done something. I—" I poked his chest making him shot up in surprise. "Just shut up and hug me."

He chuckled and held me closer. We suddenly heard leaves rustling from a distance, then military looking people strated walking towards us. "Holy shit." Slivko exclaimed, running towards them.

"Slivko!" A man yelled. All of them savored their reunion. I was so happy that we'll be going home. I wonder if many things changed. I'm so excited!"

If only fate wasn't so cruel...

|||A/n: What is up peeps? Ugh! Kaneki/Haise had gotten me the Tokyo Ghoul hipe goin' on! It's like... I'm have a million ideas for a fanfiction for one of Tom Hiddleston's character while the reader becomes a ghoul! How awesome can that be! Also, school's around the corner so... I might update less frequent. I need to concentrate on my studies soon. Ya know. I'm the class honor. I have a reputation to keep. Gosh. I miss my bad girl/rebel vibes when I was still back on elementary. I was the most mean girl looking one at the school. I turned to a nerd because I realized how it would benefit me on the future. Anyway, I'll see you guys, gals and non-binary pals in the next chapter! Buh-Bye!!!||
