Connor

I jumped in the passengers side of (Y/N)'s car that was a model made in the late 2010s.

She still had not said a word after talking about Tyson. She mentioned that Tyson will eventually leave, but the key word was "too."

Who has left her before? Perhaps her parents?

I looked for a lighter topic to not trigger anymore overwhelming emotions.

Her hand reached for the gear stick, shifting it into 3rd gear.

"You and Hank are the few people who still drive an older model. How come you drive a manual transmission?" I questioned.

"Well, Connor," she shifted into 4th gear, "not everyone has or had the luxury of having a self-driving car."

I nodded, watching as she shifted gears and clutch.

"Some people just don't wanna drive anymore, but that's not me," she glanced quickly at me and back at the road. "And some people don't wanna use their brains anymore. They don't wanna cook, clean, shop, run their own errands. And that's why they get androids."

"Yes," I agreed whilst nodding, "that is why we exist. We were made to make life easier for humans."

"I know, smartass," she rolled her eyes. "What I'm saying is that people are just lazy now. They just don't want to do anything anymore. It's all about living an easy life now."

"Yes, I think that makes it efficient for time management, that way people can be more productive-"

"No Connor," she interrupted. "You don't get it. People lose the capability to do simple tasks. What happens when the deviant situation goes out of hand to the point we have to shut down CyberLife for good? Now people are gonna look at their dirty plates and not even know how to clean it. It's that bad. We rely too much on androids."

She made a point. A very good counter-argument. While I wanted to do everything in my power to make her life easier, I still wanted her to be her own person.

I looked down at my feet to find something else to talk about.

"Where has Hank been?" she asked, thankfully before the silence smothered the both of us.

"He's been quite sick. Should be well by tomorrow."

She nodded. The silence came back, and it was creeping around in the car.

"Maybe I should tell you what we know about deviants?" I asked.

"I'm all ears."

"We believe that a mutation occurs in the software of some androids, which can lead to them emulating a human emotion."

"I think you need to dumb that down for me."

I nodded, "they don't really feel emotions, they just get overwhelmed by irrational instructions, which can lead to unpredictable behavior."

She sighed, "emotions always fuck shit up... maybe androids aren't as different from us as we thought."

Is she saying she sees me in a different way? Does she think I'm not so different from her after all?

"The two that were crossing the highway..." she trailed off.

"What about them?" I tilted my head and studied her expression.

"The android just wanted to take care of her. It was risking its own life for her," she stressed the word, life.

"She... she loved her," (Y/N) stated.
