chapter seven

ever since jack had figured out his feelings, he hadn't been able to look at veronica the same. he noticed everything about her. her pink, thin lips. her pale cheeks, that had a hint of a red undertone to them. her bright, blue-green eyes that would light up whenever she was excited or happy. to jack, she was perfect.

"you've got it bad, don't you?" zach asked, pulling jack out of his trance. veronica and daniel were playing a card game, and the whole time she was sitting there laughing and smiling, making her look more beautiful than ever.

"w-what did you say?" jack asked, looking over at zach. zach sighed, knowing jack was in deep.

"why don't you just tell her, man?" zach question. jack let out a dry chuckle and shook his head no.

"she doesn't like me the way i like her. she thinks of me as her best friend. nothing more, nothing less. i can't ruin our friendship like that." jack exhaled deeply, looking at veronica once more with loving eyes. he knew he had dug a little hole for himself that he couldn't get out of. 

he was in too deep.

"jack?" veronica said quietly, as the two were just cuddled up in jack's room, laying together on the bed in a comfortable silence.

"yes, roni?" jack asked, looking down at the girl in his arms. jack couldn't help but smile while looking at her.

"i have a question," she stated. jack nodded his head, as to say, 'go ahead'. "well, uh, you kind of have been staring at me a lot lately. is there, like, something wrong with my face or anything?"

"no, no, no. there's nothing wrong with your face. you're beautiful," jack told her, brushing a piece of hair out of her face.

 veronica blushed at his action, felling her heart flutter. why all of a sudden was her heart fluttering? when jack had complimented her before, she didn't feel this. but now? her heart was beating fast and her cheeks were so red that she probably looked like zach herron at the moment.

"oh," is all veronica could muster up as an answer. jack chuckled at her response and wrapped is arm around the girl. she sighed in content and laid her head more on his chest, feeling her eyes get heavy then fall into darkness
