[Name]'s POV
The waves calmly lap against the sandy shore, and I smile while basking in the rays of the sun. I open my eyes and tilt my head, looking over at Connor who rests in a beach chair beside me. I adjust my sunglasses on my face, before getting out of my chair and walking down to the shoreline.
The ocean water rushes over my feet, and I smile at the nice feeling. I glance back at Connor to see how calm he is, before stepping further into the water. I watch as a few fish swim around, and I stop walking once I'm waist deep in the warm water.
"This is exactly what I needed," I tell myself, before leaning back and floating in the water.
I look up at the cloudless sky through my sunglasses, relaxing as the calm water sways me back and forth. Minutes pass by of me just lounging back in the calm water, and I close my eyes in peace. A sudden presence causes me to reopen my eyes, and I see Connor looking down at me.
"Hey, Con," I say while shifting so I'm standing on the ocean floor again. "Something up?"
"I was just coming to check on you. I did not mean to intrude on your peace," he states, and I shake my head.
"Nonsense! You weren't intruding on anything." I smile at him, before looking out at where the ocean meets the horizon.
Connor moves to stand behind me, and his arms wrap around my waist. I lean back against his chest, and we stay in that position for a few moments. "What are you thinking about? You seem distracted," Connor says, and I hum.
"I just can't get my mind off everything that's going on. It just keeps nagging and nagging at my brain, and I just... I just can't stop thinking about it..."
Connor grabs my hand and leads me out of the ocean, back to our beach chairs. I sit down in one of them, and he sits down in the other, turning to face me with a frown. "Would you like to tell me what's on your mind? It's not good for your health to keep everything to yourself, it will just cause more stress," he tells me.
"It's the damn government," I grumble while resting my elbows on my thighs and propping my head up on my hand.
"For being a government agent, you don't seem too fond of the actual government."
"Because much of the government is corrupt. I wanted to help fight against the corruption within the justice system, and luckily for me, I have two bosses who also want the same as me, but the government within itself is..." I shake my head with a dry laugh, "shady. They're so fucking shady. I do enjoy my job mainly because I'm usually not involved in the politics, but like with my current situation- there are now several government agencies that might be trying to have me killed, and I ended up getting involved with politics because of the President.
"With everything going on right now, I don't think I'll be able to keep my mind off it. And knowing Jayden and Leo are continuing to search for any clues, it just makes me worry more. I feel like I'm teetering on an edge, Connor. One small gust of wind and I'm gone for good."
"Have you considered stepping away?"
My head snaps up from the question, and I narrow my eyes at Connor, "Isn't that what I'm doing now?"
"No," Connor states while staring down at me, "I mean- have you ever considered stepping away from the FBI and CIA?"
"Connor... for how much I may complain about the government and this situation, I won't leave those agencies just yet. I worked my ass off to get to where I am now, I'm not quitting just yet. Plus- I'm not giving in to what the other agencies want me to do. They would like nothing more than to see me quit, and I'll be damned if I let that happen at my age."
