I wake up, but I don't feel as if I've woken up. More like, I've opened my eyes, but my body still lay limp. For once, no one is in the room with me.
Come to think of it, I'm not even in the hospital, which is what I blatantly remember. Sort of. I remember there being an ambulance. That's all I remember. Or someone calling one.
I force myself to sit up slowly. I feel normal. Kind of. My head hurts and my throat feels raw when I swallow. And my chest burns.
I pick up my phone and check the time and date.
I'm back at the Avengers Facility. My room, I suppose. It's not that long after, only about five hours. But it is 11 at night. No doubt Peter had to go home, Marcie's probably home.
This is everyone else's home. But if I know anything, it's that Tony is still awake, tinkering with one of his suits. Last he was working on was Mark 50. It was really touchy, but he was determined to make it work. It's one of the first suits not powered by his arc reactor. He had the nanosuits, but he was determined to have one that was more protection. Like the ones he had where it was powered by the arc reactor.
I swing my legs over the bed and stand up. I immediately fall the floor. Forgetting I can't just walk normally anymore. I roll my eyes at myself, and reach for the crutches I kept under my bed. I stagger out of my room, swinging my body in the crutches. The click of them on the floor was starting to drive me nuts.
Eventually I get upset with them and fling them over and into the wall beside me. Then I fall to the floor regrettingly. I use the wall railings to get myself propped up. I heavily depend on them, but moving down the hall is a chore all on its own. I let myself slide back down the wall.
"You know, you were the last person I thought I'd be seeing throwing a temper tantrum in the hallway," I hear. I turn to see Wanda.
"Hey... Sorry I didn't mean to wake you up or anything."
"I wasn't asleep. I was just in my room thinking." she assures. She comes over and sits beside me. "I don't think we've ever formally met?"
"No, I don't think so. Sorry, I don't know why we haven't to be honest."
"Wanda Maximoff." she says, holding out her hand for me to shake.
"Beatrice Stark." I say my full name. It sounded better than saying the same old "Bea". She knew that.
"What seems to be troubling you."
"I just woke up and I've fallen twice. My leg isn't fixed. Tony probably has the leg, nanobot thingy with him so I had to use crutches," I explain, "They annoy me."
She sits a moment, contemplating something.
"Okay, I can fix your leg. I think." she says suddenly.
"Huh?"
"My powers. They're reading things with my mind. Moving things, sensing powers. But I can also force things together." she says, "I can fix your leg. I can't do it without your and Tony's permission though."
"Tony may not approve of that." I say, biting my lip. "I'll ask him anyway. I hate my inability to walk all of the sudden."
"I get it."
We sit in an oddly comfortable silence. Wanda and I never got the chance to hang out. I'm not honestly sure why, though.
I reach over for my crutches. Unpleased with how I'll have to use them for much longer than I anticipated. And frankly wanted to.
I stood up, leaning on the dreaded sticks of metal and Wanda gets up next to me.
"I know pretty much all the Avengers have probably told you this, but seriously, I'm the only Avenger that can seriously understand girl emotions."
