idk this idea stuck in my head so yeeeaaaah here

and also there isn't a whole lot of stan x reader action but y know it's a good piece of writing

btw craig is your best friend, you're on the side of the humans, everyone is like 17 and you've known stan since you were five and the only reason you're on the human team is cartman bribed you

and also the two sides each wear different armour/colour - humans are in all black most of the time and hide their faces and the elves are in bright colours and leave their faces exposed

here we go then

(DO NOT PLAY A DRINKING GAME AND TAKE A SHOT EVERY TIME CRAIG IS MENTIONED I GUARANTEE YOU WILL BE DEAD BY THE END OF THE ONESHOT)

If there was one thing I knew about Stanley Marsh, it was that he was one of the kindest and gentlest people I'd ever met.

He'd changed as we went through life together. We'd known each other for what felt like forever, but we both grew apart during our later years. Stan became closer than ever to his 'Super Best Friend' and Elf King Kyle Broflovski, and I drifted from Neutral over to the Humans. I started sliding into the shadows to the point where a lot of people forgot I even existed.

Craig the Thief had become one of my closest and dearest friends despite his emotionless and slightly asshole demeanour. Stan had trained long hard and become something of a hero in the kingdom. He broke up with his long-time girlfriend Wendy, and Craig started dating Tweek. I found it amazing, how these two boys had found love in the middle of this ruthless war.

Despite all this, he was still my best friend. Every time I saw him on the battlefield, with his cocky grin and his 'IDGAF' attitude, I had to remind myself of the bright-eyed, playful young boy that I used to know. One who spoke his mind, one who wasn't afraid to be himself.

That boy had disappeared the day he joined the war, but it didn't stop me from seeking him out, giving him gifts on his birthday, reminding him to take his hay fever remedy on summer days, comforting him when he lost a warrior, smiling at him whenever I saw him.

I had to pretend every day that my heart wasn't being torn right out of my chest whenever I caught sight of him in battle.

I'd never tell anyone in a million centuries, but over our years, my childish heart had grown to love him.

If there was one thing Stan knew about y/n l/n, it was that she was the most amazing and unique individual that he had ever had the fortune to meet.

She'd barely changed over the years. She was still the same person; the girl who hated fighting, but at the same time the girl who would probably kill someone without a second thought to protect her friends if she had to.

He missed the hours they used to spend together. Kyle was the best, he really was, but there was something there, hidden behind laughter and smiles whenever he spent time with her.

He missed that something, whatever it was.

But he'd fucked up, hadn't he?

He had changed, he knew that. Kyle had told him that enough times. And y/n... her behaviour was enough to tell him just how much.

It broke his heart sometimes, when she gave him that bright smile, and he couldn't respond, when she held out a beautifully wrapped present for him on his birthday when the rest of the Elves didn't notice.
