I'm Fine (#Wattys2015)

My mom looks over at me from the driver's seat. "You ok, Hun?"

No. I'm not ok. Why can't you see that? "Yeah... I guess." I sigh.

"If you say so, Josie. So, I was thinking."

"And?"

"I think you should see the school consuler."

"What? Nononono. This is not happening. Why?"

Suddenly, the tears stop and all I feel is anger towards my mom. I am angry that she is never home. Angry that even though she is my mom, she doesn't care enough to make sure that I really am alright. Angry that she did not go to Kylie's funeral to be there for me. Angry that she is making me see some lady I don't know and tell her all my problems just so she can blab on and on about it to my mom.

"Now, Sweetie, it is for your own good."

"No! You don't know anything! You are never home so how can you possibly know what is good for me? Huh? Tell me." I am practically screaming now.

"I...I don't know what to say..."

"That's what I thought. You don't care about me. Hell, You don't care about anyone."

"You will not talk to me like that! I am your mother!"

"Ha. You're not my mother. A mother is someone who cares about their daughter enough to sit and talk with them. A mother does not care what happens, they still love their daughter. A mother does not for to the bar all the time, get drunk, and then for sleep with another dude who you don't even know while their daughter is sitting at home waiting, crying, and wishing they had a normal mother. Not some fuck up who gives them a roof to sleep under. As far as I am concerned, you are not my mother."

Silence is all I get. And that is all there is until we get home.
