Static* on hold

They were at the convoy now. Karlee john and Clarice stood in one of the abandoned warehouses that were dotted around the area. Karlee was sat on a crate, waiting for John to give the order. Clarice was stood just a few inches ahead next to John. She was a picture of discomfort. That memory must still be floating around her head. Karlee reached out and grabbed her hand subtly so John wouldn't see. Reasurring the girl she'd be alright. In Clarice she saw herself; stubborn and sarcastic broken but strong enough to not allow others to see. Clarice turned and gave her a slight smile.

"Can you portal us into that bus from here?" John asked Clarice. Karlee quickly let go of Clarice's hand.

"Yeah," She replied closing her eyes as an expression of solid focus took hold of her face. Karlee watched as the purple haired girl began opening a tiny portal. A circle of rippled water floating in the air begging to be touched.No matter how many times she'd seen Clarice open a portal Karlee would always be amazed by it.

Something odd but familiar went through Karlee's body. She guessed Clarice felt it too as the portal disburse."Whoa"Clarice exclaimed.

"You okay?" John asked. Karlee new she had felt the feeling before, an aggressive force that turned off the switch to the electric buzz that was always in her blood.

" Yeah, I just felt something weird there." Clarice replied, but her eyes were more panicked then her words cared to admit."I felt it too" John confessed.

"I guess that makes three then," Karlee said gripping on to the window ledge to help her stand. She felt faint maybe if she just closed her eyes for a second."Karlee ?"

"I'm fine," she said opening up her eyes she stared back at John."Try again" Karlee said turning her gaze away from John. Now her eyes were focused on Clarice with a look of urgency.

"what ?"

"Open the portal again Clarice" Karlee rushed, she had a theory but it was impossible. there was no way it could be him.

It was useless nothing happened despite Clarice's determination."Something's interfering with the portal"

"Let me see what's going on" John ordered, etching closer to the window and closing his eyes." I can't track." he said defeatedly. "What's happening?" Clarice and Karlee asked.-"No, it's impossible." John thought aloud and Karlee knew exactly where his head was at, Pulse.

"What's impossible? "

"The only thing I've ever known that can disrupt mutant abilities like that is"

" Is what? "

"Not what.Who." Karlee corrected.

"You're saying that guy out there is what's messing us up?" Clarice asked looking at the pair like they were insane if only she knew.

"His name is Pulse. He has the power - to disrupt systems, shut down electronics."

"What does - that have to do with us?"

"He can also disrupt mutants. He can suppress abilities for at least two blocks. "

"And this really isn't a great look for me given I'm a walking fuse" Karlee sighed, Pulse had always been there to shut her down in the early days when she couldn't control herself. But now she needed all the energy she could get.
