Re: Response Needed
Your Unholiness,
I write again as I have not yet received a response to my last correspondence.
The decisions on how to deal with our budgetary shortfall need to be addressed immediately. The construction project is reaching a critical juncture and a choice as to what areas of the construction project will be aborted in order to stay within budget need to be made as soon as possible.
The Zombie Priests continue to add to our undead work force. Without my prompting they have taken it upon themselves to use their necromancy and zombie thralls to kill off the populations of the nearby villages, who have not yet been eaten by ghouls, and then convert them into additional undead workers. The Zombie Priests pursue this course of action mercilessly, and there are now more zombies than we can use and the extras just mill about on the edges of camp.
As these villages are technically under your protection, I thought I should let you know of the situation immediately. The lack of human habitations nearby also makes it difficult to locate sufficient provisions for the work crew that isn’t undead. I have asked the Zombie Priests to cease the attacks on the undefended villages, but to no avail. Perhaps a warning from your highness would have the necessary pull to stop this needless violence.
One a lighter note, with great difficulty, I have managed to gather a suitable workforce of skilled artisans and the finishing touches on the upper tomb complex are nearing completion.
While our progress has been notable, the tensions between these new workers and Zombie Priests are reaching a critical point. The Zombie Priests make no attempt to hide their loathing for the living workers, and this, coupled with their overall unpleasantness, has made for a turbulent work environment.
I have successfully avoided conflict between the two groups so far by scheduling each opposite of the other. The zombies do the earth-moving and digging at night and the mortal workers labor during daylight hours, but I do not know how long the situation can be maintained.
On a more encouraging note, the ghouls’ attacks seem to have slowed. Either there aren’t enough living humans left at the construction site for them to bother with or the swarms of zombies milling about around the edge of our construction site keep them at bay. Or, perhaps, as some have suggested, they too, want to keep their distance from the Zombie Priests as well.
