12.3- Near the frozen river-TMI:

             Emma was tired out after all the extra training. 'What the hell did the rebels think they were doing? Raising a militia?', Emma thought. But that was exactly what they were doing. After a few days at the government building, she and the other Tributes were finally going to be deployed, starting with taking control of the nearby water sanitation facility. The surviving Tributes would be dropped into the sewers with three other teams, and make their way to the filtration. After that, they would divert where the water goes, to ensure the recycled water did not get back to PACT, effectively causing them to rethink their position. But the way to the sewer access was a tough one, as the ones which were within public reach and were easily accessible were covered up and reinforced. There was a large field in between the government building's neighbouring park and the facility. So the new recruits, including Emma, were encouraged to dig tunnels down under along with one of the rebel military squads, and the other two squads dug trenches above them to serve as diversions. This took a while, but there was no sign of PACT on the other side so they lay mines and barbed wire in the middle, and then closer to their side. Their time without the enemy was not unlimited, for when they were done and as the tunnelers kept going, the Tributes came back up to the surface in the trenches to hear approaching infantry, gigantic in number. The rebels sent their own top squad to engage above, but it was a trap. Their army was gassed and torched, many even shot. The top squad fell back, and recouped enough for another effort. It was pure trench warfare now, with grenades being thrown and stray shots being fired and mines exploding too. Emma watched with mixed emotions, then stepped forward. She took out Cortana, grabbed a shield, and ran forward, the army behind her following suit. She heard Bellamy call the other Tributes, and they raced to join her as she met with the opposing army. Rose noticed the artillery that had just started up was magically charged, so she and Emma exchanged looks, and then Emma saw Rose lift up her wand and match the explosions blow for blow with casting spells. As Emma fought, she saw medics come and go and take people on both sides on stretchers. Those were the injured to tend to. Emma started to notice that there were a ton of people falling beside her, so she made a quick strategy change in which they formed a phalanx formation with their shields, ready to attack the PACT members coming at her. The defensive offensive tactic was pretty effective, allowing the air militia to back them up. They took the water sanitation plant, and Emma nearly collapsed with exhaustion after they had diverted the pipes. The battle may have been won, but not the war. The rebel buses came roaring in to take them to their next location.
