The monster within me- Enoch O'Connor

i awoke the next day at twelve o'clock. I guess they let me sleep in. My fingernails had dirt in them from the night before. I looked in the mirror in the attic, My shoulders were green and scaley.

"great." i whispered to myself

I pulled out some back trousers and a grey button up shirt. I put on some braces as well. After fastening my braces to my trousers, i wandered downstairs where i was greeted by Miss Peregrine, who held a pocket watch in her left hand.

"right on time." she said, jerking her head towards me as i reached the bottom of the staircase.

"But its midday." i explained

"Yes, but after i sent you to bed early, you probably didn't get to sleep until late, causing you to fall asleep around one in the morning and then sleeping in to midday."

she was right in some ways, apart from she still didn't know about me and Enoch sneakingoff to dig up dead bodies.

"yeah." i agreed as i went into the dining room for lunch. All eyes were on me.

"Hello Antoinette!" Claire exclaimed from the seat next to miss Peregrine.

"Hello." i replied as i took a seat next to Enoch. Enoch looked, well, like Enoch normally does. grumpy. I didn't mind though, i was pretty grumpy from time to time too.

"Alright, now that everyone is here, lets eat." Miss Peregrine said, tucking a napkin into her top. We all started eating in silence until Hugh said:

"Fiona just suggested that we go to the beach." Everyone nodded in agreement, accept Enoch and i. I hated the beach, well i hated swimming. She doesn't like swimming i thought to myself. Last time i went swimming i ended up in full rage mode and almost killed someone. I think i better sit this out.

"I appreciate the offer, its just i don't like the beach." I said politely, sipping my tea.

"I hate the beach too." Enoch grumbled

"Very well, you two stay behind and i will take everyone else to the beach." Miss Peregrine said. Everyone finished their lunch and me and Enoch waved them goodbye.

"Hey." He said

"Hello." i said smiling at him. He didn't seem as annoyed now that everyone was gone.

"What do you wanna do?" I asked

"I just wanted to say thanks, for last night. I needed that." He said, ignoring my previous question

"Anytime." I sated, walking into the house.

At first we just sat on the sofas and chatted about life and our peculiarities, Then we played with Enoch's dolls and had fights with them. It was really fun.

"Now, what?" I asked, my laughs from the fight fading away

"What do you do for fun?" He asked me.

"I used to dance when i was little, but then i started painting." I said.

"Then lets paint." He said

He wasn't great, but he wasn't rubbish either, we sat there, painting a bookshelf for half an hour until Enoch said:

"wanna do something fun?"

"This is fun, E." i said, rolling my eyes.

"Yeah, ok." He said grumpily "Just come with me." He lead me out of the house and into the woods behind he house. We walked in silence for about ten minutes until we got to a huge tree.

"This is my thinking tree." He said

"It's so cool!" I said, looking up at it's wide, colourful branches. He smiled at me and sat on the grass, leaning against the base of the tree, so did i.

"Have you had it since you were born?" He asked

"what?"

"Your partly green skin." He said

"Umm...." I hesitated "No, it started coming, when i didn't transform into her for a long time, I guess she really wants to come out." I chuckled

"Wow. Does it hurt?" He asked

"No, but sometimes she makes my stomach hurt." I've had stomach aches since i was little

"Cool, well not cool but you know what i mean."

"I know." There was a short pause.

"Do you become her then?" Enoch asked, i felt like he was trying not to offend me

"Yeah. I don't remember much when i do though."

"That is horrible."

"Tell me about it." I sighed "I think i would prefer not to know what she does. I lost count of the amount of times i have woken up not knowing were i was."

"mmm." He said. I'm not sure if he knew how to react.

We headed back to the house about an hour later.

"Look. I like you." Enoch said abruptly as we reached the back door.

"Really?" I asked kind of taken aback by the statement.

"Yeah." He said "And i hate everyone." I laughed

"I like you too." I said
