and for a second she didn't want him to leave.
the thought of it started causing conflict in her mind. she didn't care when kihyun left but now thinking about the idea of jooheon leaving was somehow disappointing.
"hey." she said as her eyes followed him, fixing up the tea. he worked himself around as if he knew the kitchen already.
the moment she realized how amazing jooheon was, she couldn't remember. but now she was certain he was the coolest guy ever.
and the time kihyun told her to not let him inside her house and she stood for herself, saying she'd bring anyone she wants insider her house, made realize one thing.
she didn't want jooheon out of her life now.
she enjoyed spending time with him and only now, after everything, she realized it.
"yah... what? what's up with you?" he asked, moving his hand in front of her face.
she blinked twice as she realized she had stopped talking and jooheon was now in front of her, worried.
"ah – she started, scratching the back of her head, laughing nervously – yes. the tea... i want cherry."
jooheon frowned but finally nodded as he set her mug.
boki swallowed hard as she felt words stuck on the back of her throat. she didn't know if she should be telling jooheon this, but she felt the moment was now and she couldn't keep it to herself any longer.
"lee jooheon i want you to be in my life forever!" she found herself screaming, hands clenched.
he slowly turned around, eyes widened like plates as he held her mug with the tea. his mouth formed a perfect "o" as he stared at her with surprise. "w-what?"
she realized what she had said and the way she said it and quickly covered her red face with her hands.
jooheon approached her. "what did you say?"
"i mean... i want us to be friends." she quickly said, removing her hands and looking at him. "i don't care what your brother says... we should be friends... right?" she said extending her hand towards him.
he glanced at her tiny hand and smacked it away. "what the fuck you talking about?" he asked with a frown on his face.
she looked at him with widened eyes as she felt her heart breaking softly. "i thought we were friends already." he said shaking his head and sipping his tea.
in that moment, she smiled widely and couldn't control herself when she ran towards him and gave him a back hug.
jooheon stopped on his tracks as he felt his small arms closing on his torso and squeezing him softly.
in that moment his heart raced and he felt his ears changing temperatures.
"yah! – he exclaimed – is that all the power you have? i thought you were stronger than that." he said with a sweet smirk, hiding it away from her.
then he felt boki struggling, trying to hug him tighter but it was useless. "tsk. you're weak. get out." he said breaking the hug and ruffling her hair as a sweet smile longed on his lips.
"so... are we friends?" she asked, following him around.
"of course... you can't make me go away that easily – he said throwing himself on her couch – plus, your debt to me keeps growing. i made dinner tonight and even cleaned so now you owe me 2 dinners." he said smirking.
for a second, she thought she'd feel frustrated or maybe annoyed. but she couldn't help but feel happy to be in debt with him.
"alright! i'll buy you dinner next time." she said sitting next to him, staring at his face.
he turned to look at her with shocked eyes. "yah... kumquat, what you doing? stop being a psycho." he said shaking his head in disapproval.
she didn't know why she felt the need to stare at him but it all felt weird. "i thought you had something on your face- but... it's-gone." she said looking away.
he sighed. "it's not easy you know?" he said out of nowhere.
she looked at him. "what thing?"
"i don't know... everything." he shrugged. boki wondered what he was talking about but it seemed he wasn't going to share it with her.
she looked down at her nails. "sometimes... we feel like we can't do something but life gives us challenges for us to overcome – she turned to look at him and found him staring – it's up to us fail and stay like losers or to overcome them and win." she said with a sweet smile.
"and you... you're a winner lee jooheon."
for the first time in his life, someone said something like that to him. nobody had ever believed in him. nobody had ever called him a winner.
"you really think so?" his voice was now soft and she felt endeared at the cute view.
boki nodded. "i don't think so... i am sure of it. you'll do great things lee jooheon."
his heart warmed up and for the first time he thought that he might have a chance through life.
maybe he'd accomplish things and maybe she was right, maybe he was a winner.
