I bit my lip, smoothing my pants nervously. I took one last look in the mirror before smiling and nodding to myself. Today's the day! I thought, smiling even brighter.

It was about a week after the man came and questioned me. Now, it was finally time to leave. I closed my eyes and took a deep breath.

"Miss Y/N?"

I turned to the doorway and saw my escort. I smiled at her and motioned to my outfit-a white shirt with my province flower and black pants. "Do I look okay?" I asked.

She smiled. "You look beautiful, Miss. Don't worry." She winked and bowed, stepping aside from the door.

"Are we going already?" I asked, my shoulders drooping.

The lady nodded, and I sighed. "Alright then," I muttered, following her out the door.

Many people were outside my house, taking pictures and holding out papers for autographs. I signed a few and shook some people's hands before going into the car that the royal family provided.

The car ride to the hospital felt longer than it usually was. Maybe it was because I was nervous? I don't know.

When we arrived, I automatically left the car and rushed towards the hospital, ignoring the calls from my escort.

"I don't need an escort to visit my family," I muttered, rolling my eyes.

"Y/N!" an all-too very familiar voice said.

I smiled and turned around only to be embraced by two little arms. "Isa!" I exclaimed, picking her up and twirling her around.

"You're leaving today, right?" she asked once I put her down.

I hummed in response, walking towards Mom's room. Isa grabbed my hand and walked slowly. I stopped in front of her door and looked at Isa, who was fidgeting with her shirt.

"I'm gonna miss you," she whispered.

I smiled and hugged her. "I'm going to miss you, too. Very much, actually," I said, ruffling her hair.

She slapped my hand away from her hair and tried to smooth it down. "I'm not going to miss you doing that. You keep messing my hair up!"

I smirked and ruffled her hair again, making her slap my hand. Again.

"Miss, it's almost time to go. You should visit your mother quickly," my escort said politely.

I nodded at her and opened the door slowly, making it creak. I stepped into the room and saw my mom still unconscious. I sighed and went towards her, tears rimming my eyes. I held her hand and closed my eyes.

"Hey, Mom. I got chosen for the Selection. I don't know if you know that already. You should wake up soon. I'm leaving today, and no one will take care of Isa when I'm gone. You can cheer for me, too.

"I just want to thank you for being the most amazing mom in the world." I chuckled. "This sounds like a speech you would give at a funeral. Sorry about that," I said, squeezing her hand. "Also," I added, "I love you."

"Miss, we have to go."

I let go of my mom's hand and nodded, wiping away the tears that fell onto my face. I took Isa's hand and smiled at my escort.

"Let's go."

Time Skip

"We have arrived, Miss," my escort said, shaking me gently.

I yawned and opened my eyes to see a huge crowd in front of a stage. My eyes widened as many people cheered and screamed when I stepped out of the car. I smoothed my hair, asking the escort how I looked.

"You look beautiful, Miss." She straightened my province flower, and tears rimmed my eyes again as I thought of my mother. "I wish you good luck, Miss. Not that you'll need it."

I smiled at her and grabbed Isa's hand. The crowd mage a little path for Isa and I to the stage, which I appreciated. I stepped onto the stage, Isa following me.

The crowds cheered for me once again. The lower castes were the loudest, shouting compliments and encouraging words to me. The upper castes, though, were glaring at me. A few, including the Brouillettes, were cheering for me.

The mayor smiled at me and looked to the crowd, who immediately quieted down at the sight of their mayor. "And Allens will be cheering on their beautiful representative, Y/N L/N!" the mayor said into the microphone.

The crowed cheered once again, some throwing flowers. I waved shyly and smiled brightly.

"Ladies and gentlemen, please join me in sending Y/N L/N off to the Selection!" the mayor called.

There were more cheers and flowers.

The mayor put the microphone away from his lips and leaned down to me. "Would you like to say something, sweetheart?" he asked.

I smiled shyly. "Other than saying 'thank you', I don't really know," I said, trying to make my rejection polite.

The mayor smiled. "It's alright, sweetheart. Don't worry, they'll teach you everything nine that category when you get to the palace."

I nodded and stared at the crowd once more, scanning for anyone I knew. The only person I knew was Ashley and her mother, who were both smiling and waving. I waved back and watched as my escort, whose name was Mina, walk over to me.

"It's time to leave, Miss. You'll have to say your goodbyes quickly."

I nodded and looked at Isa. I hugged her tightly, and she hugged me back. I fought back tears and kissed the top of her head. "Be a good girl, and take care of Mom, okay?"

She nodded, tears running down her cheeks.

I wiped them away and smiled. "I love you."

She embraced me again before Mina pulled my arm, making me teary-eyed again.

I waved one last time before heading to the car and stepping in.

The drive to the airport was tiring. My eyes were red and puffy by the time I got there, and a lady had to put makeup on me so they wouldn't be noticeable.

I walked into the airport, and I saw another one of the Selected. She had red, blazing hair and pretty blue eyes. She was really pretty.

I walked up to her. "Hello. America Singer, right?" I said softly.

She turned to me and nodded. "I'm-wait, you just said my name. Silly me. You're Y/N L/N, right? A Six?"

I nodded, and another girl came through the door. A very pretty girl with blonde hair and brown eyes came towards us, waving. Marlee Tames.

She walked quickly, almost running, and embraced me, which surprised me.

"Hello!" I said once she let go. "I'm Y/N L/N!"

"I know! You're from Allens, right?" she said excitedly.

I nodded.

She embraced me again. "I hope we become good friends!" she exclaimed happily.

I smiled as she let go to introduce herself to America.

Maybe this won't be as bad as I thought.
