Chapter Forty One: What Was Meant To Be

Start from the beginning

"Fine..." Alexandra agreed.

"Keep an eye on her, Nick." She shook her head, watching as her guard made his way through the club.

It was different than the ones they had been to before, with three floors, each one seemed packed.

Putting her drink down on the counter, Alexandra's hand brushed against Nicholas'. The electricity was more magnified than when they had bumped into one another that morning. The tension rapidly building up between them.

"You know what, I'm going to take a look downstairs." She said, trying to keep her mind from thinking too much about him.

As she started to walk away, he grabbed her hand.

"Shouldn't I go with you?" He asked, an eyebrow raised.

His touch frazzling her, she yanked her hand out of his.

"Whatever, do what you want." Alexandra told him before going down the stairs.

In the basement it was slightly less packed than the floors above them. The center of the room was densely populated, with strobe lights shining over the crowd, and music playing loudly, while the edges of the room were dark with couples littered around.

Standing by the railing which separated her from the crowd, Alexandra watched as people around her danced the night away. She was oddly envious that they could enjoy themselves, while she was looking around to see if there was a grey ball of shining light around them. Checking her diamond, she saw it was still clear, indicating that the orb was not likely to be found in this building at least.

She leaned against the railing, feeling a little bit disappointed that the orb wouldn't be found tonight either. I wonder why it's becoming so much more difficult to locate one? She thought, feeling an arm brush against hers.

Turning, she saw Nicholas standing next to her, his back facing the crowd, as he watched some girls pass them by. They giggled seeing him, and he smiled back. Biting back whatever jealousy she felt, she kept quiet. Ignoring him she saw a man catch her eye, he waved, motioning for her to join him. Normally she would have ignored the man, as she had a number of times at other clubs, but with the tension between her and Nicholas at breaking point and hearing the lord chat to another girl, spurred her on.

"Enjoy yourself, Nicholas." Alexandra said, loftily, walking past him with a wave; deciding to give him a taste of his own medicine.

Looking back she saw Nicholas standing alone, watching her. Smiling to herself she walked over to the other man, as music played around her, the tempo changing.

"Oh why are we are waiting so long, I'm suffocating

Boy it's now or never, Time we get together

Been a long time coming, now I need that loving"

"Want to dance?" He asked, looking her over. "I'm Mike by the way."

"I like the way you tease me, But let's just make this easy

Put me in control, We can switch roles

And I take the lead, You're so far behind me

You know what I need, I'm not gonna stop"

Having worn a short sleeved, knee length, v-cut black dress, she hid her discomfort at being ogled at. Mike offered her his hand; swallowing her reluctance, Alexandra stubbornly went with him.

"Sure." She said, trying to act cool and collected, as she allowed him to lead her in to the throng of people dancing. "I'm Lexie."
