Chapter 4
Raven POV
"Oh my God MUM!" I scream as I unlock the front door and close it behind me
"Are you okay sweetie?" my mum yells back, her voice coming from the kitchen.
I walk to the kitchen and sit down at the bench picking up an apple and chewing on it
My mum twirls around holding a bowl with cake mix in it, in one hand and a wooden spoon in the other.
"Well you look fine." She queried. "What's up Raven?" she asks me.
"I made a friend." I try to look bored.
"RAVEN! A friend?? A living, breathing friend??" She gasps, forgetting all about the cake mix I suppose.
"A living, breathing one mum and wait for it... A boy" I watch her expression turn from surprise to full out 'I'm having a panic attack' look.
"A cute boy mum" I add for good measure.
She squeals and I have to cover my ears.
She starts dancing around the kitchen splattering cake mix everywhere with her carelessness. "A boy, a cute boy, a living cute alive cute boy" she starts chanting this over and over again. I roll my eyes and wait for her to finish her mind party.
She gasps and catches her breath all while I just sit there munching on my apple.
"Raven. You met a boy?" she asks
"Yes Ma" I nod.
"A cute boy?'
"Yup" More than cute, but I keep that one to myself.
"Alive, right?" she asks.
"Yup" I nod again.
"OH MY GOD!" my mum sputters out, and then dashes out of the room. Wtf?
"Yes, yes a BOY Jerry." My mum called my dad, great.
"Yes, yes I'll put her on the phone. Okay. I love you too." She passes the home line to me and squeals excitedly before going back to the food, but not without glancing at me every bloody two seconds.
"Hey dad!" I say cheerfully.
"Hey kiddo! A boy hey?" he immediately gets to the point.
"Geez some privacy between conversations of mother and daughter would be nice." I say sarcastically - it never happens.
"Well it was either I found out now or later on tonight when I come home." He says matter of factly.
I grunt in response then decide to get the conversation over and done with.
"Immetaboyacuteboyandwellwetalkedandbamfriend?" I rush out taking a deep breath after.
"Whoa whoa kiddo, come again?" My dad says.
I groan then say slower than necessary,
"I meet a boy a cute boy and well we talked and bam friend?" I was met with silence then a loud cheer on the other end of the line
"Wow a friend!" he laughed and I blushed - way to make your daughter feel normal, dad - then he added seriously "But we're gonna have to talk about this boy." I blush again, and drop the phone purposely, I pick the phone up making sure to make a ruckus "I'm sorry dad" I make fake breaking-up noises and then say "Breaking up see yo- onight" then hang up quickly. My mum gives me a pointed look but I quickly hop up and speak before she can.
"I got homework Ma, call me when dinners ready?" I don't wait for an answer as I rush upstairs to my room.
I'm shocked at how quiet it is right now. Oh yea Tommy, and Kye my twin brothers, are at a sleepover. Why my mum let them go on a Thursday night, when they have school tomorrow, I don't know.
But the quiet is nice.
The boys usually leave me alone when they're here, but the noise those little boys can make is quite atrocious.
I don't actually have homework due the next day and I decide to have a nap to relieve the stress knots in my back. Expecting someone to wake me up for dinner I sleep lightly but when my body finally decides that my parents probably didn't want to wake me, I fall into a deep slumber and have dreams about clouds.
