"Are you sure, 100 per cent sure, Ash, that you're okay?" Peter asked me as we sat in the library at school studying. "You've been weirdly quiet."
"Yeah," I said. "Just thinking. Studying."
"Okay..."
I could tell he wasn't convinced.
"Peter," I said, turning to him. "I'm fine, really. You need to stop worrying."
"I'll stop worrying when you're back to normal." He retorted, punching a number into his calculator.
I stared at him for a moment.
Then I made up my mind.
I opened my mouth, took a deep breath, and kept on studying.
Peter and I had become kind of distant.
I thought it was because he was mad that I didn't tell him what was up, but Marina thinks something very different.
"He's got it bad," she told me as we, along with Renée, lay on our stomachs on her bed chatting.
"What do you mean?" I asked, confused as to what she was meaning.
"I mean," She said. "He likes you. A lot. And you like him back. That's why you've been so down lately."
I shook my head. "That's not it. Not at all, Rina. I don't like him like that. We're friends. Nothing more."
This was something I had told the two of them many, many times before. They never seemed to believe me.
"Ash, Rina, Ren," Noah's voice came over the speaker in the room. "We need you suited up. Something's going down with the Avengers."
The three of us exchanged glances before attaching our symbols to our shirts and changing immediately.
Renée grinned. "That never gets old."
"It never will." I agreed as we ran to the hub room.
There were more agents than we'd ever seen milling around, and it took a moment to find Noah and the others.
When we did, we quickly rushed over, people stepping out of our way like Moses parting the Red Sea.
"What's going on?" Marina asked when we reached Noah.
"The Avengers are fighting Miss Paver and Mister Bailey," Mark said. "Also, they've got err... Six more."
"Who do?" Ryker asked. "The Avengers? That's a good thing though.""No," Bran said, shaking his head as he chipped in. "The Opposites. Oh, that's actually really good. Again, we all doubt Jess. She always pulls through."
I snorted. "Alrighty, then. Where to? Are we needed?"
"Yes. The Avengers are being overpowered as we speak. Even with Scarlet Witch on their side." Jess told us. "We'll send through coordinates. Go!"
Once outside, we put our masks on and Renée lifted us up with her powers and we all started flying through the air.
"Where to?" she asked.
"Five down now, four left," Noah replied.
We reached our destination and took in the scene.
A man with a bow and arrow, Hawkeye, I guessed, shouted when he saw us, talking into his earpiece. "Guys, we got five more incoming!"
He shot two arrows in our direction.
I reached out and wrapped a vine around one, pulling it away as Louis struck one from the sky with lightning.
